    VARIOS 4x4 VARIOS

Uli (Germany) is indeed another person than Ullie (Belgium). :-) In Belgium there is a forum from overlanders.be where there are several vario drivers, but most of them are 4x2. In the Netherlands you have camperpoint (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWS0-KsoQ30). He builds campers on vario...

In the past? They still do it. :-) It's the firm in Germany to get a better 4x4 than from the mercedes factory.

Which maxxis is suitable for a Vario? I've got maxxis on my SUV and I'm pleased with them. But I can't find a tyre suitable for the Vario.

all terrain tires for Vario 814D in Mexico and/or further south

For our 17,5" rims (for driving on-road during the year so I don't wear our big tyres), I've got following tyres. http://www.hankooktire.com/uk/trucks-bus/hankook-dh05.html They perform very well also off-road. (small country dirt roads, wet gras,etc... and snow conditions in the Alps during...

all terrain tires for Vario 814D in Mexico and/or further south

We've got 19,5" rims with a toyo tyre on it. (M608Z, 285/75R19,5) This is for single tyres in the back. To me it drives better than the original tyres with the size 9,5R17. (double air in the back)

    1975 Mercedes 309 Camper Possibilites

With a locker on the back axle, this vehicle gets very far in 2WD. Do it slowly and you'll be amased. We came across some Germans in the Albanian mountains last summer with such a vehicle and they passed everywhere where we did in 4x4 (merc 814 DA). When it gets muddy or in loose sand, than...

Auction of Mercedes Vario 4x4 on 23rd Feb

This is our 814 DA4x4 with a wheel base off 4,25m (from the factory like that). We had to look rather long to find one, but in Germany you can find them. It had 94.000 km in 12 years when we bought it in 2009. (it was a crane vehicle to work on the public lightning and power cables in the city...

    Merc Vario - Help needed

You can also loosen the two nuts which connect your cables of the handbrake with the air served girder. Than you don't have any handbrake any more. We did this to get home after purchasing our vario to get home. It had stood still for a long time and the cables were rusted. For the electrical...

    814D tyres for winter

Hey Ian, No, I use the big wheels only for trips with dirt roads. For trips with only paved roads, I put the smaller wheels on. The big wheels are a bit to expensive to wear them off on paved roads. Also the snow chains I have do not fit on the big wheels. So for winter sport, I leave the...

    814D tyres for winter

Yes, but we have traction on both axles. The tyre shop said they could be used for both axles, even in 2WD, but originally it's a tyre for a traction axle.

    814D tyres for winter

We have Hankook DH05, size 9,5 R17.5 on our 4x4 814Vario. Went on 2 skiing trips with plenty of snow last year and they performed very well. Didn't need chains at all in the climb to La Plagne (France), al the cars did need chains. This winter we will be returning at least 2 times to the...

Toyo or Michelin for Mercedes vario 814 4X4

They are from FASP. They are attaches with steel bars through the basement (50 cm) to the subchassis. They are the only seats we could get approved to transport people in the back in Belgium.
