Sad End to This Cautionary Tale, As Folks Start to Head Back Out Into the Wilds, Pls Be Careful

Dude shut up. I was agreeing with you, and this is just an oppertunity to learn from. I am not trying to contribute opinions, we are trying to learn from it. It was probably a nice couple, and not completely unprepared. Could've been one of us easily. For example I learn from the fact to stay...

Sad End to This Cautionary Tale, As Folks Start to Head Back Out Into the Wilds, Pls Be Careful

Sad endint. I don't know any of this terrain/area, but the article says they were 22 miles from where they left a paved road. Apart from staying with your vehicle (which would be good), couldnt you make such a hike? I mean, it is the road you know, because you came that way. Since it is not at...

Any Hiace 4x4 Van owners out there?

I think this is not the LWB but the Super long wheel base. Does the chassis code sound something like LH129 or so? Have fun with it!

    Parking heaters at altitude

We have a Planar 2kW diesel air heater, and I don't know at what altitude I have used at the highest. But 9000ft is nothing special. I think I probably used it a few times above 10000ft. I believe it does not come with height adjustment and it works fine.

What battery size would you need to go overlanding in an EV.

Hey why so negative about windmills? You will get garantueed output when you aim them forward while you drive on the highway :P

    mercedes ml???

Wow ok that is difficult just like Germany. Here in Netherlands it is pretty easy to modify cars, they don't care for different suspension and tyre size for example. I was thinking more in the lines of adding a difflock from a different Mercedes, but I don't know if that is possible. Torsion...

    mercedes ml???

Nice! For anyone interested when I checked these cars, I found out that the second generation ML was available with an "Offroad Pro" package which featured actual difflocks! Which makes it a true 4x4. I think the first gen is nice because it is cheap to buy at the moment, and it will do...

    Maximum Lift on IFS Vehicle?

I have Toyota IFS at the front with torsion bars. Almost 2" is the max because you will be close to the max of the suspension, any further makes it unsafe. It varies per car but I think 1 to 2" is max, for more you need these complete kits. I would just do a small lift of 1 or 2 inch and try to...

Oz to Norway via West Africa

Maybe wrap the black part in a nice color, or replace the canvas by another color. Not including sand/desert colors. I don't know how high the risk is though. Good luck.

And here’s yet another promise to bring more affordable EV trucks into the fold

Well at least all those silly space ships don't have the air resistance of a building, so you can buy less batteries. In the end, we are trying to make transportation more efficient isn't it? And the AC lines from inverter to motor is not that great either, but it will work. Tesla wants to do...

What battery size would you need to go overlanding in an EV.

You mean you want to build a sort of universal camper box and integrate the drive battery in that shell? That means you will limit yourself to future electric trucks which are built up like typical trucks. If some company makes an electric truck with those kind of battery sizes (and weights) it...

Is it a sign that I'm just growing up or getting boring?? Soon to be Wrangler-less...

No need to justify your actions against these die hard Wrangler guys. I remember that I was 25 and traded my sports car for a tiny Yaris, so that we could save money for our first big Asia trip. After the trip I continued driving a Yaris as a daily driver because it is just so (cost) efficient...

    My Escape Life

Those videos aren't always that realistic, but yeah, better see for yourself. If you want you can live cheaply. Find out cheap but healthy way to eat, and lots of stuff like hiking and so on is cheap to do.

Canoo EV cab over / camper truck thing...

This is the most logical shape, if you don't have a big bulky engine, you can use the space much better.

    Greetings and felicitations Overlanderists!

I have done 2 big trips in old diesels, but if I would buy a completely new vehicle I would consider electric. However, electric vans of the size of Crafter and Sprinter are hardly available and come with a low driving range. Petrol sometimes makes more sense, since diesel engines have become...
