    Camp Shower...

Built from "scratch" - otherwise known as Home Brew Fresh Water and Shower System: It's simple if you've got space for a tank, and there are a number of ways to pull water: hand pump, electric pump, gravity if you're clever, and someone recently brought up the idea of using compressed air to...

Pathfinder Aluminium Skid Plates for 05+

Pathfinder Aluminium Skid Plates for 05+

Better? Good question. There are certainly some advantages to aluminum that steel can't offer. Light weight, higher strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance. But aluminum is more costly. Steel skid plates can bend, as can aluminum plates. These plates in question are 1/4" thick. I...

    Shade Cloth for Awning

Ripstop nylon --- also known as "tent material." Lightweight, durable, sheds water, somewhat costly but not outrageous. A shade awning is exactly what it was designed for. Several online fabrics retailers will sell the stuff between $6-$10 per yard (at 60" widths), depending on the quality.

12V Socket for Fridges: clever ones?

Hmmm, I don't know. It's been a snowballing process to get to where I did: with the socket in the back of the compartment. If you could get up close and personal with my set up, you'd understand why I've got the plug on the inside of the back wall, and why I didn't cut to cord to hard-wire it...

12V Socket for Fridges: clever ones?

Riiiiiight. As if this thread isn't right up your alley - if you knew how to plug in your fridge you wouldn't be thinking of selling it. :yikes: Okay, now that we've swept out the trash (AH-HEM), let me hit some of the finer points some of you fellas have made: Custom make a socket holder...

12V Socket for Fridges: clever ones?

Thanks for the fast replies guys. If I had to pick one of yours to go with . . . I like Chuck's the best: :snorkel: I wish a flush mount would work in my situation. The surface mount is what I've "got" to use. What I see at AT is nice, but why is it the size of a pool table? I actually...

12V Socket for Fridges: clever ones?

What kind of 12v socket are you using to power your fridge? I purchased one at Radio Shack, which has been somewhat of a bust. It's not as rigid as I'd like. I found this beauty online: So far I can't find it near home (mainland USA). This Australian site has it, though. I like that it...

On showers, pump failures, and body odors

Interesting question . . . let me 'splain: Based on where the supply line enters my tank (picture: horizontally in a lower corner) we'd never get every last drop without creative use of the hi-lift jack on the front bumper or parking on a hill. :) It gips me out of 2 gallons or so. Funny, I...

Fun with Picture Browsing on the Web: PicLens

This sucker is an absolute hoot: http://www.piclens.com/ You download it (for free), then do photo searches via Google, Yahoo, or what-have-you, and it gives you a really sweet way of browsing the results without having to load the page that the photo appears on. :Astrologist:

On showers, pump failures, and body odors

Ohhh, I like this idea of an air-pressured water system. Though I've used a 2-gallon garden sprayer for washing on short trips, I hadn't considered that same technology on a larger system. Interesting. Even if your air compressor failed, you could still pressurize your water with a bicycle...

How to Keep Kids Occupied when traveling/ Camping?

So far, I don't exactly think lots of stops are key as much as long stops. A 2 hour lunch stop for instance - play hard, hit the road . . . naps fall in line. Everybody loves fun with glow sticks!

    Brewing Camp Coffee...

:) Good boy. (but I've been known to use it on desperate camp mornings) But with the Ortlieb coffee filter holder, it is large enough to take a pots-worth of grounds. Nevertheless, Brooke and I typically only make a cup of coffee each in a given morning. Making espresso is faster and...
