Catastrophic Hankook failure on the freeway...nasty

Thaf certainly sounds scary, and gets one thinking about potentials. Sorry to hear about your truck, after so much effort would certainly be devastating.

    4d34 turbo advice needed

Cheers guys, yeah don't want to introduce more lag (not that it's got that now) on the little 3.3, so roof mount probably not a good idea then. I should have done some temp testing prior, but It is what it is now so will work with it. Going forward is probably tricky due to the turbo...

    4d34 turbo advice needed

Update on the 3.3l 4D31 FG434 turbo project: Turbo conversion is done, we worked big time for a massive weekend effort. Fitting turbo including customising manifold + flange, customised turbo outlet, all associated fittings, all cooler and intake piping, dump and exhaust, fitting of larger...

Thanks guys, I thought it was that one. I have a pyro and guage installed ready go go, and boost guage to. On the A Pillar non the less, looks pretty ricerboy spec for an old FG434 haha

    4d34 turbo advice needed

Hey guys, hijacking this very helpful thread, turbo is going on my 4D31 this weekend and wondered if anyone could point out the fuel screw for me please. I'm guessing it's the one on the top with lock nut and wired? Also I figure the pumps on your originally non turbos don't have any boost...

    New player, any thoughts?

I saw this today, interesting new option. The parts would be a concern but otherwise seems pretty reasonable setup. Looks like it still has dual rear wheels though. If wanting to get singles it could be tricky if ones made for Canter/Fuso's or Isuzu's or Iveco's don't fit, and associated...

    4d34 turbo advice needed

Cheers for the link. Seems simple enough. Punching and tapping carefully should be ok...ish. Re using vac pump return I wouldn't think much inital fall would be needed as the fall continues/increases within the block/sump. As long as it's lower should be ok.

    4d34 turbo advice needed

A quick one, where does your turbo oil drain return feed back into the engine? I don't have my truck at the moment but can't remember seeing a provision for it. 4D31's did come in turbo so there must be something. I figure the return feed from the vacuum pump off the back of the alternator...

    4d34 turbo advice needed

Cheers Dan, it certainly is a tricky one, who'd have thought such a big vehicle (vs a car) would be so tricky in comparison. Going 2.25inch pipework would make more sense if front mounting, even that is over kill really for the power output. Brad, yeah that was my thinking, no need to worry...

    4d34 turbo advice needed

Cheers for sharing those pics. It certainly is tight. It looks like the 6 series perhaps has more clearance than the 4 series. Some of the engine aux gear is in different spots too, probably more to do with the different engine. I did a video up for the bloke who'll be helping me with this...

    4d34 turbo advice needed

That's be awesome. I spent part of today climbing around under the cab, opening and closing it, measuring bits and trying to jam what hose I had through (bigger than the 2.5 planned though). Leaving the stock condenser in (assuming my 4 series is still the same as yours) certainly restricts...

    4d34 turbo advice needed

Thanks Dan, nice work on your conversion. It sound like you're still dropping turbo size to get more air early yeah? Big capacity difference with the 4.2 vs my 3.3. I've based my turbo sizing on what people do for the 2.8 and 3.2l 4x4's and TD04L's are the go there when the upgrade. I've...

    4d34 turbo advice needed

Cheers guys, the flange is closer to T2 (T25) in a way. T2(25) is 73mm on the long spacing (so the same) but 40mm on the short. Using just two bolt holes and re-drilling could work but would offset the turbo to the outlet on the manifold. In anycase using a T2 (T25) flange the plate on the...

    4d34 turbo advice needed

Figured I'd jump on this thread too. I've got an old FG434 with the 3.3L 4D31 non turbo. My hair grows faster than the the thing. So it's getting some boost. It will be intercooled also. The 'kits' with manifold (4D31 and 4D34) all list either TD05's or TD06's. I feel these are all too...

    Camper Truck Acquired :)

Cheers peeps, Dan, the body is 3650mm long overall truck length from the front of the bullbar is 5650mm, not including the crazy wheel carrier and crane that's on it (as I'll be changing all that), width is 2000mm across the bulbar and the rest isn't really any wider. So close enough to the...

    Camper Truck Acquired :)

I thought I'd follow up on my previous thread as I've now bought a truck. She's an old girl 1991 FG434 SWB but ticked quite a few boxes. It's already got 19.5's and 285/70's on it (35.2 inch?), tyres are not really off road type but may get Toyo's before travelling to far. The camper...

First truck camper - Slide-on setup vs fixed body

Cheers for the feedback and personal experiences. Your setup looks good and would certainly do the job. Yeah sub 20k for a fairly newish one. I'd dismissed the us ones due to a few others on here letting me know what they'd come across, structural issues causing leaks into panels inturn more...

First truck camper - Slide-on setup vs fixed body

Bradk, It's good to hear of more locals nutting out all these options and challenges. I have noticed the price of used trucks can seem high but also widely varied too. As one gets closer to early to mid 2000's the price drops quite a bit. Amesz00 I've been trying to work out how that body...
