I agree with these numbers as they're basically spot on for what I'm seeing. I'm on 265s, but I have a basket roof rack up top.

At speed, drag has more of an affect on fuel economy than weight. Also, at least for the GX 460, the type of driving that you use it for really matters in terms of fuel economy. Slower speed start stop driving really burns gas, but it's actually surprisingly efficient at highway speeds.

A 265/70-17 fits underneath on my GX 460. Since they both use the same stock size, I'd assume it would also fit on a GX 470.

Will there be a way to retrofit the tank between the cab and the bulkhead without removing the camper?

Question: 3rd gen Tacos seem to require bed stiffeners to reinforce for the bed sides for camper mounting. Is that needed for the Alu-Cab canopy camper? Feels like the full door extends downward and helps distribute weight to the floor, not to mention there might already be Alu-Cab engineered...

Perhaps a sideways sleeping arrangement downstairs might work? Regardless of how you configure it though, there's not a lot of height downstairs to make sleeping comfortable if you're not on the bed floor.

Did the water tank ever get announced? I'm wondering how it pipes into the camper. Is it gravity fed?

We didn't go to the hot springs (I still haven't been even though I'm now in a GX 460), but I'm 100% confident the Forester can make it there.

There's plenty of folks with years and years on their Oztents that are holding up just fine, many in this forum. I'm sorry mandingo had a bad experience, but it seems like his experience is the exception and not the rule.

Even though automakers by and large have great quality control processes these days, manufacturing defects still happen. It might very well be that OP got a dud motor that was going to blow no matter how it is operated. There's perhaps something to be said about putting some miles on a vehicle...
