    Chevy 6.5l Turbo Diesel.

I have a 1994 6.5L 4x4 Suburban that I am building, replacing almost everything in the process. It is currently running a mechanical 6.5L GEP Optimizer naturally aspirated and a NV4500. I am building it balancing MPG, reliability, drive-ability, and off-road capability. I have been happy with...

Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

I think you mean sway bar not torsion bar, otherwise you front end is probably riding really low on one side. I personally enjoy my sway bars, and have put upgraded front sway bars on my 2001 2500HD and 1994 K2500 Suburban.

    95 GMC K2500 Suburban - input wanted

My current driver I am building up is a 1994 K2500 Suburban with a 6.5L diesel. Do you know what your gear ratio is? If yours still has the heat front axle actuator, I would strongly recommend the electric actuator with a conversion harness. Honestly if the interior is trashed, I would consider...

Need Fiberglass Foam Core Panel Recommendation

I built my own small camper shell by making a extruded polystyrene foam core from scratch and fiberglassing over it. Not hard but it takes some practice. Look up surfboard building techniques and just imagine the scaled up version. I know I have seen some other example on here of the same sort...

    1997 Chevy K1500

Looks good. I assume this has the 5.7L Vortec. Do you know if it has the 14B SF axle? I love 90s Chevy's with the NV4500 5 speed, I am currently building up a 1994 Suburban to replace my 2005 Tacoma.

New to me 99 Suburban: 5.7 vortec repairs

You definitely need to put bolts in that transmission mount immediately if you haven't already, you can probably find some that will fit for now at a fastenal or tractor supply. Powertrain on these only mounts at three points, front two engine mounts and the transmission mount, so the front...

    1995 K1500 Cheyenne ECSB

Truck looks good! I suggest you add to your PM list to gently clean out the radiator and A/C condenser, and if the fins of either are messed up replace it. I had a 1991 K2500LD with the 4L60 and 5.7L, both went out after I bought it and had to be rebuilt, didn't know at the time but later...

New to me 99 Suburban: 5.7 vortec repairs

Frame doesn't look eat up with rust, and I don't see a hole in the door, so it isn't nearly as bad as some I have seen drive by. On the door/rockers I would at least hit it with a wire wheel/sandpaper, rustoleum prime, and paint. That will at least freeze the issue in time, and you can decide if...

    Another 1991 Suburban

I had similar intermittent low idle stumble/die issues on my 8.1l in my 2500HD last year, acted like it wasn't getting fuel. Tried bulk sensor replacement including throttle, pedal, O2, etcetera. I am pretty sure it ended up being the Camshaft position sensor, low on the front of the engine...

    Bottle Jack suggestions

I use a two stage mechanical screw style bottle jack out of a 80 series land cruiser in my Tacoma. I use a piece of very thick (about 2") plywood I glued up as an "offroad base" to spread the load out, which is carefully routed out on the top layer to firmly accept the jack base.

    Re-rigging a pull using a manual winch

Kerensky97, I am not sure what type of tow straps you are referring to, as none of mine stretch an appreciable amount. If you are referring to a snatch/recovery strap which does stretch, those shouldn't ever be used with a come along. I personally like chain and use it all the time around the...

    Re-rigging a pull using a manual winch

For the actual re-rigging question, if your vehicle can stay where it is at (aka not slide back) I would pull all you can, and then adjust your straps by removing or doubling them as you have already diagramed. If your vehicle is going to slide when you let off of it, that is where the multiple...

    Re-rigging a pull using a manual winch

I rebuilt a high end hand winch to accept synthetic line by sanding the drum and replacing the fairlead with HDPE. Put 60' of 3/16 synthetic on there, could have fit 1/4" but wanted to have winch line as the weakest point, not the winch. Probably could have fit 100' if I had elongated the...

    The 255/85R16 Tire Official List

Thanks for the link, article looks good and I look forward to the next installment. It is nice to have additional choices in this tire size.

    Ramsey winches...Anyone use them?

I have looked at 6,000 lb winches before, more for weight savings to make it easier to move on a receiver carrier. The Ramsey model seems a bit heavy for a 6000 lb winch at 84lbs without cable, and looking deeper it appears to be built on the same platform as their patriot 8000 and 9000 series...

    1997 K2500 Sub- Expedition Build

You should be able to get all the RPO codes off of the sticker in the glovebox. Alternatively you can contact GMC/Chevy customer assistance with your VIN number and they can give you a build sheet with all the RPO codes. I did that with my 1994 K2500 Suburban I got earlier this year which had...

Mickey Thompson or Cooper A/T tire decisions

Based on your criteria "Wet/snow traction is most important" I would take a look at Cooper's AT-W. It is similar to the AT-3, except with a bunch of sipes and special groves for snow traction. I run them on my 2005 Toyota Tacoma and don't have any complaints about the onroad or offroad traction.

    Trailer winch

Yes, as Verkstad pointed out when I typed “Have a way to remove it from the trailer (like on a receiver mount) for storage” and “winch on a 2” receiver, and use it for your trailer” I intended that a person would have a receiver socket mounted on the trailer to use...

    Trailer winch

My 2 cents. Get a bigger ATV winch, 4k to 4.5k lbs rating from your winch manufacturer of choice. These are sealed better than the utility style winches and appear to be built better for a modest increase in price. Have a way to remove it from the trailer (like on a receiver mount) for storage...

What should I be using to drag large trees?

My vote is for a cheap strap with some repurposed cut protection, as mentioned above. Keep that strap and use it for any duties that could potentially damage a strap, tree pulling, towing broken down vehicles without appropriate tow points (not recovery don't use a sketchy strap for that), tree...
