I have an AWD express van and I never miss not having another 20 inches but its just me in the van usually.
Also , even with KO2s I can 18mpg on the highway if I keep it under 70 mph
I would never trade the AWD for longer wheelbase but I am also off road quite a bit in mexico
Baja is exactly the reason I buy KO2s, you can always get a replacement down there because so many people run them.
You could probably even find a used one
Also a good argument for buying 5 new tires and rotating them all
This is why I never went with taller tires. My vans gearing is too tall as it is.
In deep sand reverse gear is so tall I have to make sure I dont have to use it.
Do the front seats have to match?
Get one from an old junked volvo semi that has the Bose Ride system , you will be the coolest van guy on the internet
That photo of your rig in front of the church really put a smile on my face today
I have a feeling your gremlins have all left the van
If they ever return, maybe try a stained glass porthole window
I got that as well , no idea how I ended up on the mailing list
I am a DIY guy and even though I will probably knock together a new van soon , I am not investing 200k in one
The other factor is the width of the sand ridge that gets formed in front of the tire
The wider this is in proportion to the total square area of the footprint , the harder it is for the tire to roll forward
Correct.
I would also add that a skinny tire with lots of sidewall and the smallest rim your van will accept
You want the footprint of your tire to be long and thin when you air down.
I agree, since this is not backpacking, I am not concerned about weight
I find a lot of camping equipment is great for a few days on the trail but not great for daily use for months on end
I am more into stuff that wont get damaged when I am bouncing round on the dirt roads of baja
I am hard...
Its says aftermarket 4x4 in the PDF, Quigly I am guessing.
Sounds like a local shop botched a helicoil repair so pulling the head would be a must.
Kind of a small gas motor for such a big van but I would take it!
People would have been going nuts for this two years ago
A locking rear end, walking tricky portions of road before you cross them, and airing down your tires will get you to 90 % of the cool campsites in Baja
Those 4x4 sprinters are too worried about their paint to get to remote beaches.
I have an AWD chevy express with the G80 locker and I love it...
Forums were the best way to exchange information and swap gear for special interests groups that the world has ever seen
Facebook and reddit killed them and offer very little value in return
Just not enough people left here anymore for the critical mass needed for a community
