A little update, I had a water container at the back secured with a strap over the top through the handle. I didn't notice but during a rather rough descent it had moved out from under the strap and landed on it's top so the vent slowly leaked the water out. I built a box to contain the jugs and...
Those will all be tubed sizes. Which is fine until you have to pull the tube to fix a flat. No plugging and airing up. If you can find 16" that fit your hub then a 215 or 225/85 would work
You're welcome ottsville, sometimes it's hard to wrap our minds around things. Try explaining bicycle steering geometries
For my own curiosity I measured my spring length. From the eye to the center bolt along the curve of the unloaded spring is 1/4 inch longer than a straight line. So I...
The thing about a tandem set up is that the axles/tires "walk" over obstacles. The first one goes up but only raises the trailer by one half of the wheel travel. That's what the equalizer is for. As it is going down the other is coming up but the trailer stays only half up. The springs should...
As one spring compresses, the other elongates. But if you check actual measurements I don't think you will measure much change and they cancel each other
Bias ply tires are indeed stiffer than comparable radials, side by side on a dualy the bias will carry all the weight. That truck tire you showed looks really stiff and also requires a tube which, in itself, requires higher pressure to prevent pinching. 15" tires taller than what you have are...
You guys are creating theoretical problems that don't exist in reality. The leaf springs are anchored to the frame fore and aft. The distance between the axles doesn't change. With 265/75 16 tires I have almost 3" of space between the tires but any space would be enough
Do you really think that is an issue?
I'm thinking anything of any size would just get spit out. My trailer tires are truck takeoff's anyway so they're in the last 25% of tread life and don't have enough tread to pick up stones. That was my thinking with using the same wheel/tires as the truck...
That doesn't sound right. I have 265/75 16's which are basically 32's and I have the same standard trailer spring as you, 25.5" eye to eye

Scroll down about 1/3 page to the spring diagram. There is an equalizer...
I've found better mileage with higher rpm's. At least high enough that the engine is in it's power range and not lugging at all. I don't think the interior weighs enough to be significant, except maybe on uphills. Even that balances out on downhills. I think it's mostly wind drag, which...
This last trip we averaged around 12 but I drive generally between 60 and 70. "Unloaded" I get around 16/17 but I have a mounted toolbox. The Tacoma has a v6 3.4. I also lock the OD out and down shift if the revs get below 2500 so my engine is working mainly in the 3000-4500 rpmrange
Thx NevadaLover
ultraclyde, it tows basically like it isn't there
I generally pull it 60/65 but Levi (my nephew) was running 75. I've been on some forest roads where I was pulling it in low range. I'm guessing it weighs maybe 3000# and the hitch is prolly 10% of that. It isn't really top heavy...
