    Wet weather jacket advice please

Be aware that some are oil cloth, some are waxed. Never had an Australian, but have worn Barbour and Filson for a number of years. Have a no name (that I remember) oiled one, great water repellent, left stains on my cloth seats and any papers that touch it. Comfortable other than the sleeves...

Actually I have done that, after hearing Michael row the boat ashore 15 times at 11 PM, I felt it needed doing.

No big deal, but I am jealous of your area. Texas sucks for getting away from crowded camping areas, its mostly private property.

    Wet weather jacket advice please

You have worse luck than me, I've been wearing a Frogg Togg for about 3 years now. I think it is the Toad Rage, been a good jacket. The best for me has been a BMW Motoraad vented jacket. Probably 12 years and still great. But I have used North Face, Frogg Togg, Carhartt and never really had a...

Then you have a luxury many do not. I think the key to what the "old guard" is saying is, consider others, they arent as excited by you as you are. If you are in an area with no people around, then blast it till your hearts content. But the "old guard" has likely experienced someone in camp...

My goodness, I think I camped close to you once in a state park. I pretty much knew there would be no listening to the great horned owls hooting it up when your scout troop rolled that big screen TV out of the trailer and set up the surround sound. Yes sir nothing compliments the outdoors like...

    The watch (timepiece) thread

30 meters is basically considered rain proof. Probably a good watch if you are careful of water. Things like showers, hot tubs and swimming where the watch may impact the water are killers of 30 meter watches. I'm okay with digital, but I have to actually read the time as opposed to just...

Propane regulator. Any propane guru here!?

Water happens, can be in the actual liquid propane or condensate inside the tank. Two stage regulator doesnt really do much besides eliminate pressure creep as the contents of the cylinder are used. Not a problem with burners, but if you have something that can blow a seal at say 10 lbs...

Odd choice Overlander? Fiat 500x trekking.

I had an 83 CJ7, in 83. One of the most fun vehicles I ever owned. Shelled 2 transmissions on 3 years, all the knobs pulled off the controls and the fuel gauge quit working twice. All in about 50,000 miles. Still it was a hoot to own. I have an 04 Toyota Tacoma, 180,000 miles, other than regular...

Odd choice Overlander? Fiat 500x trekking.

Like I said, no offense intended. No experience with the 500X, just newer Fiats in general. Lots of little problems with one of the gals at work, and a friend bought one that had a transaxle leak from day one until the day he got rid of it. A Fort Worth Fiat dealer had a special last year, buy...

For those that carry Guns and Overlanding

Seriously, what did you think was going to happen when you make comments like people living in fear? I mean, seriously, I dont think anyone was asking for a dissenting opinion. I'm glad Germany is secure and comforting, hell my sis called the police at her house and it took 45 minutes for one...

For those that carry Guns and Overlanding

180 grain 357 Buffalo Bore is some serious stuff. I am inclined to agree. I haven't found a 454 Casull all that intimidating from a Red hawk, certainly less so than a S&W 329 44 mag. In my opinion, there's no handgun I would feel comfortable with confronting a brown bear, but then there's...

Really thats the good thing about it, if you dont wish to carry, nobody makes you. If you do wish to carry, well here at least, nobody accuses you of being afraid. It's a culture thing.

For those that carry Guns and Overlanding

I read somewhere, a while back that there were studies that show big heavy bullets traveling at a more moderate pace had better penetration against solid bone than big bullets moving a very fast speeds. All that being said, i aint a fan of 300 blackouts or the AR pistol's.
