The MaxTrax holding pin bolts are long enough to go through the sides, we put SS fender washers on each side of the thread and use a nylock nut. Put Type II silicone in the holes to provide sealing against weather.

You could if you wanted but you would have to be careful to appropriately mask off areas to avoid interference of moving parts.

Not to worry, this is normal. The upper sides have some horizontal flex in them that will show when the gas springs are in their compressed position. The lid still will have proper closure because it is tapered.

I would agree with this statement. I think the better option is to raise the awning off of the track giving enough clearance for the gas springs and to move it rearward .
