    ZJ vs WJ

The downfalls to the early ZJ's (crappy 249, V8's having the D35) are also easy to overcome with even a mildly built rig. I did a LOT of trails with short arms, locked 8.8, 231 swap, and 33's. Much more comfortable now though with long arms, and reliable due to removing the weak control arm...

    ZJ vs WJ

Some further info on the ZJ t-cases . . . all V8's and some 4.0's came with a 249 QuadraTrac t-case. The 93-95 249 is substantially different than the 96-98. IIRC, the initial torque splits are 50F/50R on the early, and 20F/80R on the later. The bigger difference is how they handle low range...

    ZJ vs WJ

Great information so far on ZJ's and WJ's. I've had my V8 ZJ for 17 years now, a LOT of trail miles on it. The stronger unibody on the WJ is a definite plus, but can be easily compensated for with a good long arm kit on a ZJ. When hanging bigger tires off a short arm suspension on a ZJ it's...

    Artic Cove 18 volt Mister

I have a system in my ZJ that I use for similar situations. There's no fan, but there's a windshield washer bottle that I put water in, it sits on the back of the center console. There's a hose that goes under the console to a washer fluid pump that is controlled by a momentary switch on my...

    Help in Denver?

Can't remember the name of the place, but I've had good luck with the place near Wads and 470. Kinda northwest of there a touch.

    Pint Glass for camping

I picked up a stainless steel pint "glass" at Lagunitas a few years ago and use that for camping.

NP242 transfer case in a JKU?

Keep in that the 242 will only have the 2.72 low range reduction, not the 4:1 that your Rubi has now. That would outweigh the full time 4wd option for me by a LOT.

    Project Rambler: Jeep ZJ

Sounds like the carrier bearings, usually pinion bearing noise changes with throttle load. And good to hear on you taking care of the trails. Your comments about not admitting to where you took vehicles made me wonder a bit, so I just wanted to make sure everything was good! Looking forward...

    Project Rambler: Jeep ZJ

I bought my ZJ at roughly the same age as you, and have had it now for almost 17 years. Fun rigs that don't get as much respect as they should. Biggest drawback is the unibody. Couple other areas to keep an eye on with a 98 as well. Your front driveshaft is likely a rezeppa style cv joint...

    XJ Ball Joints?

I have an XJ HP30 in my ZJ and have replaced the ball joints a couple times as 35's and hard wheeling tend to wear on them a bit, and don't recall the Moog's really being that much more. But for something like a ball joint I have no problem spending a little extra coin for it.

finding a new cover for Mombasa Adventure II 3 Man tent

Maybe this is it? Didn't see it the first time around, their site formats weird on my phone. http://www.mombasabrand.com/roof-top-tents/1000d-cover-for-adventure-ii-series Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk

finding a new cover for Mombasa Adventure II 3 Man tent

My cover is shot from sitting in the sun for years. Zipper is destroyed as well. Saw some older references on where to find covers, but not finding them available there any longer. Any one have any ideas?

Is this an other off road /expedition trailer brake question?

As a previous poster said, a 3500lb trailer axle with brakes is easy to swap into just about any expedition trailer. And I've drug my electric brake equipped M416 through many water crossings and have never had an issue, even in 2' deep water.

    Spare tire question

No issue. My concern would be more the wasted money on 31's when you'll eventually do 33's. Not hard to do a spring over and run the 33's. You might even be able to just flip the axle over.

    JK Overlanding/Spare Carrier Hood?

On more than one occasion I have gotten two flat tires at the same time on a trail. Only once though was it a situation where I need needed a second spare, and that could have been avoided as well as a plug kit could've gotten us going again but it was easier to just borrow a spare from a buddy...

Help - JKU rear upper shock mount broken

Shouldn't be a big issue, you just need what's called the "bar pin." Most shocks come with new ones, and a lot of times people will eliminate them altogether.

Why not more Grand Cherokee overland vehicles??

I have a ZJ, have had a WK2, and my folks have a WJ and WK, and I've been around a LOT of different Grands since I bought my ZJ in '00. I've probably wheeled with at least 150 different Grands of various vintages and build levels. The ZJ was built on what is basically a modified XJ platform...

How do you store your trailer?

Stick it behind the fence? Unless you have a huge rack on top of it you should be able to hide it behind a gate and keep it out of the way.

My M-416 Build (1965 Stevens into an Overland Trailer)

Done! And that trip was cold, would've much rather been sleeping in an RTT that night! And I still have never had as much trouble getting a campfire started as we did that night.
