    CB/Ham Antenna Mounting on 2018 F350 w/ tonneau

I was thinking about a bracket between the bed and the cab. Not sure how much room is there on the new trucks though. It would work on my 7.3, but I feel like the gap between bed and cab is smaller now. If I could somehow mount the antenna inside the stake pocket that might work. Somehow...

    CB/Ham Antenna Mounting on 2018 F350 w/ tonneau

I've got a 2018 F350 Crew Cab Short Box on the way, and while it won't be my primary Expo vehicle, I want full comms capability in the truck. . My plan is a Retrax or similar tonneau cover: https://www.retrax.com/p-36464-retraxpro-mx.html . When I'm towing, this is really a non-issue as the...

Polaris is about to screw the good folks at 4WD hardware

Meh. . Wasn't it 4WDH that bought JU from Chris back in like 2002 and then ran the place into the ground? I haven't bought a part from them in the 18 years I've had my Jeep, won't be starting anytime soon anyways as they carry very few ZJ parts.

    2017 F-250 Overland/Hunt-Rig build

I'm not so much concerned about the mounting and unmounting of the RTT, but the rack itself blocks use of a gooseneck hitch.

    2017 F-250 Overland/Hunt-Rig build

That's a sweet looking rack. It would fit what I'm looking for, but without the tent platform being removable it makes it impossible for me to use my gooseneck. The more and more I look at these the more I'm leaning towards just pulling my M416 and not bothering with putting the RTT on the truck.

Expedition trailers, would you buy/build one again?

I have an M416 that I've pulled behind my Jeep through Colorado and Utah. Pulled it behind my F250 a bit too. I haven't used it in 3 or 4 years, but am hoping to more now that the wife has a JK and we can get out in the woods with more than one rig. I am getting a new truck soon and had...

New (to me) 2002 7.3L F350...ideas on where to start....

I've had my 7.3 for 11+ years and 100k miles. It's primary purpose is tow my Jeep, but we've used it a few times for light wheeling and camping. . One thing I'll add to what's been said so far is to make sure your power steering pump is in good shape. These trucks use a hydroboost system...

    Am I just outdated?

Part of the "age" of these vehicles is also the amount of time we've spent working on them. If I had been working on a brand new 2018 F350 for 18 years like I have my Jeep, I'm sure I'd be just as familiar with it and could fix it just as easily.

    Am I just outdated?

You're right. If your vehicle is in your shop/garage at home. But if you're stranded in the middle of nowhere without cell service to do the research you're screwed. When cutoff from the interwebs and having to rely on just what you know, an older vehicle is much simpler to diagnose.

    entry level HT Transceiver

That's a good point. They use that same area to broadcast OTA TV and radio for most of the front range. I know I have a line of sight there from my office and most of the way home, would imagine my wife does too. . EDIT: Looks like it's about 25 miles as the crow flies

    entry level HT Transceiver

Yeah the repeaters are actually nowhere near us unfortunately. My office is about 5.5 miles straight south from home, and my wife's office is about 3 miles east from the midpoint of the line between my office and home. There's a huge antenna station right ********** dab in the middle of that...

    Am I just outdated?

. This is the exact reason I'm keeping the unibody of my ZJ cobbled together, as I have touched just about every nut, bolt, and screw on that entire Jeep in the close to 18 years that I've owned it. When the unibody fails beyond the point of repair, my plan is to find another ZJ and swap my...

Let me show you how little I know....

You ended up buying the Baofeng 5 watt radio for a lot more than it can be had for without the Rugged Ridge name on it.

Looks like a rebranded Baofeng UV-5R.

    2015 JKUR Long Term Build

We installed the Cobra 75 with the audio interrupt shortly after the last update of this thread and it works great. Other than that the JK is still stock, but we've decided to go with the Nemesis Notorious flares and 35" BFG AT KO2's. Planning to get everything on in the next few months...

    entry level HT Transceiver

Looking at picking up the BaoFeng BF-F8HP as my first HAM unit. Specifically looking for an HT in this scenario as it's primary purpose will be a SHTF pack in my truck. My wife will be getting one as well and communication with her is the primary goal in a SHTF scenario. I know that with an...

Gunnison County Road #3, Crystal Mill

Good idea on the drone. I don't have one, as the last thing I need is another expensive hobby, but do wheel with a couple guys who have them.

Gunnison County Road #3, Crystal Mill

Most info I know of says 17, and 9 of them were in one accident in 1970, so the numbers are a bit skewed. My advice when running a long section of shelf road like that is to have the most capable rig/most experienced driver go first while the rest of the group waits behind. As the leader...

    in reach

That's exactly how it works. I think we may have been able to figure out a way to effectively group text through it too but not 100% sure on that. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

    in reach

I've used my InReach quite a bit throughout CO and UT. I used to use a SPOT Messenger, and liked its functionality, but the 2 way capability of the InReach made it right for me. I'm part of a group that puts on an event in Moab each year, and being able to communicate between groups without...
