    Which Radio ?

I have CB and GMRS in both Jeeps and the tow rig at this point. Trying to move my wheeling group away from CB as much as possible and GMRS has been a good way to do that. I still planning on getting my Ham license eventually, but only one guy in my group has his, and nobody else really wants...

Grand Cherokee ZJ Builds (Share you pictures)

Regearing made a big difference for me. It was tolerable on 33's with 3.73's and bolt on mods to my V8, but with the 35's it really needed the gears. Ditched my Dana 35 a long time ago (15+ years) too for an 8.8. Yours should have the 44A so you've at least got a halfway decent axle for a...

Grand Cherokee ZJ Builds (Share you pictures)

Here's a couple pics of mine. Many different iterations over the years, but Clayton's long arms, 4.5" RE coils, 4.56's, 35's, locked in the rear. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

I think Proto-Fab is the manufacturer on that bumper, not sure they're making them anymore either.

Grand Cherokee ZJ Builds (Share you pictures)

Plenty of ZJ parts out there, check out Clayton's, Iron Rock, Kevin's Off Road (he's retiring, but may some stuff left), and Iron Man. The biggest weak point on a ZJ IMO is the factory upper control arm mounts. With heaver tires and axles they are prone to tearing off the unibody, especially...

    JLU worth car payments?

Agreed. My wife's JKUR still has the stock suspension and runs 35's with Nemesis flares. Very slight rubbing only under heavy articulation. We're putting a 2.5" lift on it just to give her better breakover angles as she drags that thing everywhere.

    JLU worth car payments?

I question the need for 37's as well. I have a ZJ on 35's and my wife has a JKU on 35's. We have done the trails you mentioned without issue, and have done trails considerably harder as well. Seems to me the best route would be to just keep it simpler and run 35's. It'll make it easier to...

2015 JKU Rubicon, 1.75" spacers vs AEV 2.5 Dual Sport

Ordered everything last night for the AEV 2.5 with the brackets. I'll post up our thoughts after we get it on. Sent from my SM-T710 using Tapatalk

A Discussion of Differing Points of View: Is Jeep Leasing an Intelligent Choice or a Dumb One ??

Depends on how you're wheeling the Rubicon. A stock Rubicon doesn't make it far on a lot of the trails my wife and I run. Her Rubicon struggles to keep up on a lot of the trails I do in my ZJ, so we're modifying it. It's 3.5 years old at this point, 22k miles, and has wheeling damage (cracked...

A Discussion of Differing Points of View: Is Jeep Leasing an Intelligent Choice or a Dumb One ??

Plenty of situations where leasing makes a lot of sense for the buyer. I have 5 vehicles, my commute is <15 miles/day roundtrip. I've leased 4 or 5 DD's over the years, and they've all worked out great. I have a nice car to drive to work, and have a nice car for road trips because I keep my...

2015 JKU Rubicon, 1.75" spacers vs AEV 2.5 Dual Sport

I like the dual rate springs as the load will vary quite a bit. Driving to and from work, empty. Wheeling harder trails with me, empty. Wheeling medium trails there could be 180lbs of dog in the back or my trail box which weighs ~150lbs. Or the M416 could be on the back and the dogs in...

2015 JKU Rubicon, 1.75" spacers vs AEV 2.5 Dual Sport

Not leaving it as is. She wants to take her Jeep and doesnt want to ride passenger. There are also times when we only have her JK as the truck is occupied pulling our 5th wheel and cant tow my ZJ. We also want her JK to be able to do any trail my ZJ can so that we can go out just the 2 of us...

2015 JKU Rubicon, 1.75" spacers vs AEV 2.5 Dual Sport

My wife has a 2015 JKU Rubi. Already has Nemesis flares and 35s. Works pretty dang good, has wheeled some trails that are certainly on the harder side for her build level (like Pickle in Moab). Problem is she drags everywhere. Thing is super low with no break over angle. So we want to put a...

my experience with GMRS so far

I think I need to spend some time studying up on ground planes as well. I might be having a bit of a mental block on how they work too. If I envision the antenna as an upside down T, the antenna itself is the vertical part and the ground plane is the horizontal piece. If radio waves come from...

my experience with GMRS so far

Made it out to 22 miles over the weekend. Using the coverage map from a few posts back I tried to find a spot that was convenient for me to get to that would push the range further than I have so far. I was in my truck, MXT275 with the Midland 6db gain antenna in a stake pocket mount on my...

98 5.9 limited zj overland project

Even for just driving it on the street you'll want to regear for 35s. Your trans will thank you if throw 4.56s in there. Sent from my SM-T710 using Tapatalk

my experience with GMRS so far

Also, I think rather than just stomping on the guys at Ace with my 15w radio I think I'll just use it to page them to come out and refill my propane tanks rather than using the buzzer they have out there, lol.

my experience with GMRS so far

Gotcha, a lot of the info on the web seems to be prior to the 2017 changes. I thought there were dedicated GMRS only channels, but its really just that we can use more power on the FRS channels with our GMRS. I need to look into the repeaters a bit more too. There's only a couple I can hit...

my experience with GMRS so far

Some in town, but noticed most of it on 285 in the mountains. Was very intermittent and hard to pin down an exact cause. My wife was behind me in her JK and I was in the truck pulling the 5th wheel. I'm guessing the 5th wheel being so close to the antenna was not helping things at all. Yeah...

my experience with GMRS so far

So the picket fencing that I had been getting seems to only happen when one or both people are moving. When they're stationary, no sign of it at all. Found out the Baofeng HT I got on an Amazon flash sale can also handle GMRS freqs. Not sure how legal that is, but it worked. I used some...
