I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

I just got back from a 10 day roadtrip. I covered 3500 miles with 600 miles off-road. I went through 7 states, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Idaho, and Wyoming. 5 National Parks and 1 National Monument, Great Basin, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, Arches, Rocky Mountain and Colorado...

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

And now the organization is done. Don’t worry the gas can is only in for this one trip. This winter it will get mounted to the exterior.

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

Whilst getting ready for my trip to Utah and to the Mountain West Overland Expo, i've been doing some interior organizing. Eventually most of these items will be attached to the exterior via t-track, but for now i'm working with what i've got. So far it's looking pretty good inside and with the...

Yes it is. Same as the exterior. Just trying to use up what I have before I buy more.

Also as a reminder to always face into the camper when exiting. Or else you do this...or just use your steps which I was clearly not doing.

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

Got the interior build started. For now I will be just putting in the couch on the driver side and front storage box. This winter I will insulate and build the counter. So I am trying to make use of materials on had and that lead to me using a piece that I had written some math on late one night...

Thanks. I've been following your build as well and it is pretty awesome! I will be replacing my canvas with something thicker and with windows.

Thanks. I have enjoyed building it. With the second roof iteration I will be redoing the canvas and it will connect from inside as well. That way the roof will just shut on itself and not the canvas.

I knew that the factory TRD 'bilstein' shocks weren't the best, but I did not realize how tiny they are. I replaced the rears with some Bilstein 5100s. The ride quality is so nice now!

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

My water leak issue is from when I am driving down the interstate and the wind forces it into the canvas and supersaturates it. A drip edge would theoretically stop that. I do not get any leaking from just rain hitting the roof. I attached a pic of how my roof is more or less built. The only...

Tape...lots of tape. The only way would be to add a drip edge and that will be part of the 2nd roof iteration.

This weekend I also started on the interior build out. I have the framing built for the bench on the driver side.

As I am sure most Tacoma drivers know that when you put any weight in the bed it droops. That's ok if you don't have a leveling kit or 500 extra pounds on the rear. My truck was sagging about 1.5". So for now since I don't have the money for a full lift I went with Icon 3 leaf progressive AAL...

So I added some Horsepower and better aerodynamics to the camper!

The battery installation has been completed. I just need to wire in the fans and I am done with electrical for now. For the curious, the starter battery is wired into the bottom of the left fuse. I fused both sets of batteries from the isolator. The fuse panel is connected directly to the camper...

I got my other fan installed and it is just in time with record heat wave up here in Washington. I am excited to find a river and use these awesome fans this weekend, but first I need to sort the wiring. I ditched the wooden box for something more permanent. Another sweet gift from work. I...

Yes that is the existing drain hole that I drilled out to about 1". I will be putting a boot on it soon. I'm a huge fan of adhesives as well.

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

Installed one of the two roof fans. I am super stoked on these fans. This one fan alone moves some air. No more warm nights for me! Super easy install as well. When I built the roof frame I added in framing for the fan so all I had to do to open the roof up was use the ol' router. I also glued...

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

Started on my batteries for the camper. It's not pretty, but it will work until I start the interior build out and make the permanent box and setup. I'm running two Group 31 yellow top optimas (which I got for free) everything else i've had kicking around my shop for years. I'm running a 500amp...

Thanks. The flat roof hasn't leaked, but it does pool up so i've been using the orange RV leveler pads to park the front tires on. It's been working, but is somewhat inconvenient. Luckily I don't daily the truck anymore. I might in the future rebuild the roof and try and make it not flat.
