I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

Thanks. Roof 2.0 will have some overhang as well. I just hope this will get me through the winter.

Make sure that your weather stripping is closed cell not open cell foam. My 'waterproof' open cell foam is not very waterproof. My roof version 2.0 will have the canvas attached to the inside as well with closed cell foam and a drip edge of some sorts.

Roof 2.0 will be sooner than I want it to be. It will include new canvas as well.

I was hoping not having a drip edge wouldn't bite me in the ass. Turns out not all waterproof fabrics are in fact waterproof. Last week I put dicor all over the joints on the roof and I still had some leaking. I have determined that it is dripping from the roof onto the exposed canvas and...

    Pop-up Camper Door Height Opinions

I built mine and used a Tern Overland Wildland trailer door at 42"x26". I'm 5'10" and since you are stepping up into your camper you won't really notice it.

It finally happened. During the rain that we've had recently in the PNW some water pooled up on the roof and made it's way through. I was hoping that waterproof tape and flexible waterproof silicone would be enough to not have to use Dicor. So this week I will be slathering all joints on the...

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

On my way to the Mountain West Expo my cheap amazon fridge started to crap out on me. It was freezing and to keep it from freezing I set the temp to 58F. I will give it credit, for $280 it lasted 2 years and I used it a lot! While at the Expo I purchased a Dometic CFX3 55 and it is much larger...

    Four Wheel Camper ‘Project M’

I have a 2018 Toyota Tacoma with a homemade pop top camper. I have sealed up the front intrusion points where the bedsides do not contact the front lip of the bed rail. I have not sealed up the bed storage areas or where the plug-in is. I also have some gaps where the tailgate used to be. You...

    Four Wheel Camper ‘Project M’

I just did 500-600 miles of off road travel through southern Utah and I turned my fan on speed 3 supplying with the lid closed. I saw no dirt inside my camper. Worked like a dream. I did learn that this trick won't work with the fantastic fans as they have a shutoff, but the maxx fans are OK.

Hello and thanks! I have had minimal, but it has not caused any issues. My truck sits higher in the rear so it tends to flow off the front. So far so good. I believe the edge is 1/8” thickness.

    Fabric on the pop-top..

Sounds like a great plan. I understand the eye thing. I just did velcro along the top and it was rough!

    Fabric on the pop-top..

I hadn't thought about the backsplash. Mine currently has no windows because my machine couldn't handle it. My next iteration i was thinking of 6 windows, but maybe I will only do 5.

full size frame twist and implications to campers

So far my homemade pop top has survived about 3000 miles of off-road use and some of that mileage has been technical rock crawling trails. I have a 3rd gen tacoma and the frame flex scared the ******** out of me the first trip because I initially thought it was my camper. So far though I have had no...

    Fabric on the pop-top..

I used Ottertex Waterproof acrylic 5oz. I have a couple holes where it rubbed but a couple patches fixed that. Personally its too thin for me, but it has held up very well.

Thanks! I finished her up in May and I have about 1000 miles of off-road travel and maybe 5000 miles on-road with it attached.

Thanks so much!! I encountered very little smoke on my trip down. Most of it was in Nevada and it was minimal. Southern Utah was clear and Denver area was clear. However, on the way back I hit smoke west of the Rockies all the way until I hit the north cascades on my way back to Seattle.
