Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

Want a Mach1 that needs some work? Fuel pumpy, no pumpy, this morning. Poor things sat in a garage too long. Can't sell it to fund a Cobra 427 small block build. But it would fund a Honda CRF450L.......................

    Front Mechanical Locker Experiences?

Good advice. I felt the same way, a few years ago. But I was kinda wrong. The rear diff, ''diffs'', much more in turns than the front. It's the major culprit in hurting turning radius. We blamed the front diff because we were running selectables up front that sucked at turning when...

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

You do understand that there's two separate races going on at Le Mans, right? The GT cars have specific rules on what parts are from the street cars. Yes that's a real Ford Gt and a Corvette. The GT was designed from the get go to be a street car that has some of those specific parts nearly...

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

VIR must have a different layout for bikes. It's only 1:12-1:30 for them? Corvette has won Le Mans 8 times since 2000. Ford GT won Le Mans in 16 and 17. IIRC.

    Aluminum RTT condensation issues

Exactly. Condensation comes from the air in tent. Replace the air with something solid, and less condensation. Closed cell foam or rubber should be water resistant as well.

    Aluminum RTT condensation issues

How do you keep water from condensing from the air in a diesel tank? Simple. Keep the tank full. Refill every single night. No wet air, no condensation, no water in the fuel. Same with tent. Get rid of the air. In this case the air filled bed mattress. Switch to close celled foam...

    Vehicle choice

How do you plan on sleeping and showering? That's a serious deal breaker for me. I want AC, room to store a little gen for the AC, and an indoor and outdoor shower. That's Ford Superduty, Dodge 2500, territory. Bundutec Bunduvry for me, hardside. But maybe a pop up Bundu or FWC is...

Is 4x4 really necessary for a cabover build?

Bed location shouldn't be a plus, for the pickup. Assuming since we're talking about big boxes, that it's diesel. And putting the bed over the cab really isn't a good idea unless the box has jacks for easy removal. [My Dodges cylinders #5&6 are so far onto the dash that they're part of the...

Is 4x4 really necessary for a cabover build?

Modern cab overs are for urban city workers that nobody cares about. Anyone worth keeping around gets a nicer truck. Safety? Haha, utilitarian cabovers have none. Comfort's usually the same. .........or, get one of these. AWD, cabover, cool as heck. And already has a box, just remove...

Is 4x4 really necessary for a cabover build?

The 2% of the time that I need it, I NEED IT. Although, I might be all the way up to 10% usage now, thanks to the storms last week. Better judgement only applies if you have the information, and the opportunity. Take away either, and you'll quickly be trading your ride for a 4WD. Mud...

    New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

What kind of dealer tech, couldn't fix this? A facetube yahoo fixed it. Now I've missed things in the past, but they had two chances to make this better.

How much extra fuel do you take?

Bottom half of my tank. Go by the rule of thirds if doing something hairy.

    Ram air vs centrifical prefilter

Fork lofts generally run at low throttle, and those bowls work fine.

    New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

Big time engineering oops there. I run 19.5'' and 20'' wheels to tow and haul with F+ rated tires, not to overland in an suv.

Spare tire smaller than the tires on the truck?

Do those have an AWD mode? I doubt any domestic fullsize has a limp mode tied to the ABS sensors. Heck, GM's ABS sensors fail quicker than I can eat iguana burritos.

    Canadians... What's it really like?

I'd choose the latter. So are millions of Americans. Hopefully canada gets it figured out before it happens here.

Nissan throws in the towel, ending US production of NV and NV200

I don't get it. Why? I see a van doing nothing but being tossed down a hill that it has no right being on in the first place. A Dodge HD or Ford Superduty with a box would have all 6 tires flat on the ground there. Not only could it go down, but going up that, would be cake.

Why NOT use the stock spare tire location on a pickup truck?

I think without my spare, I could get hung up on the hitch more often, I'll have to look. But yeah, it does have some trail rash. But never from forward travel TTBOMK.

    Ram air vs centrifical prefilter

Dust prefilter There is no ram air effect. All force is lost in the long hose run. Last snorkel that I made had a wall that could be removed, so the engine didn't have to breath through a straw on road.
