    What is your favorite belt?

Prior to the Wilderness Tactical belt, for years I wore and Aker belt. It looks like a regular dress belt, but has a polymer insert. When wrapped into a circle around your waist, the belt becomes rigid and readily supports a substantial amount of weight for tools or other items...

What are the sub $1k options? Are they any good?

I'm currently about 280 lbs and the stock ladder feels insubstantial. (I've always been big, but recovery from an injury/surgery last year led to some weight gain.) Also, with the height of my vehicle, the ladder is at a near-vertical position. That's great for the support of the loaded tent...

    Fording Depth vs. Snorkel Height

I've seldom needed one on the trail, but it's bought me peace of mind several times. My snorkels are for getting to work. Tidewater floods several times a year. I'm in a position at work where I'm expected to make it in no matter what. It helps that the vehicles I need for that are justified...

    LED Light Bar Placement

For the most light, put it up high and set back a bit. Otherwise the down wash will reflect off your hood and you'll hate it. Thought a low placement isn't bad, especially if you can do a stealth installation.

What are the sub $1k options? Are they any good?

No real complaints with the Smittybilt except the ladder. It could be better.

If you were to start all over with a brand new truck, which would you choose?

Probably a 4-door 3/4-ton Chevy or Ford. Too long to make a great trail rig, but great for everything else. In short, a fullsize truck will work everywhere I want to go. I've done it before.

    rubbermaid action packer

Don't forget Walmart's "Ship to Store" option. That's often the only way I can get my local store to have something they supposedly carry that I actually need. They love empty shelves for some reason.

    Coleman camp oven?

Walmart usually has them for about $35. I have one, but have only tried it once and burnt the hell out of some cinnamon rolls while the wife was napping in the RTT. :chowtime:

[RTT] Roof top tent question for all those experienced with having one on a campertop

[RTT] Roof top tent question for all those experienced with having one on a c... Another way to do it would be to visit a local welding shop, like where the contractors are getting ladder racks, and have them make you up something. The configuration I'm thinking of has side rails that sit...

A good sleeping bag and a good battery are priced similarly. I'd get the bag first.

    wrangler vs cherokee

Lift options and aftermarket support are comparable. One note: DON'T get an 00-01 XJ. The last two years had the most problems. 96 is the best year of the old interior, and 98-99 are the best of the cupholder years. The rear hatch on the 97+ is metal and more durable. 00-01s have the 0331...

    Smittybilt Overlander RTT Review

They're supposed to pull the farbic towards the center when you close the tent. I've used them and not used them and couldn't tell any difference. I do like the one nearest the door though. I thread it through the handles of the red strap so it pulls them toward the rear when you open things up.

    Smittybilt Overlander RTT Review

Like you, I was ready to get a Kukenam Sky, but the price point was just too convincing. I have about a week's worth of nights in our tent. I've found it comfortable and stable. I agree with most of your findings here as well. My tent has a battery-operated LED strip, but I'd love to get...

    Rebuilding Old Coleman Stoves

Good advice from Andrew! The cap gasket may be okay. You'll know when you try to pump it up. If it doesn't make pressure, remove the pump stem, flip the leather pump cup inside out, and soak it in oil overnight. Yes, white gas/Coleman fuel is the best choice in the older stoves and Dual...

Diff in coleman dual fuel stoves

Thanks! I just keep the stuff I actually use and the stuff with sentimental involvement. The real collectors will have shelves surrounding a room with only the same model. One guy has barns full! (Yes, barns, and he still bought two from me.) My collection is quite tame in comparison.
