My wife, Amy, and I just got back from a wonderfully-relaxing vacation in Michigan's Upper Peninsula—hiking, checking out several waterfalls, and just all-around relaxation. Little did I know that our vacation would have some cool FC-related bonuses.
First, I got a text from Arizona-based FC...
Thanks! Me either.
Another affordable (and increasingly rare) 47RH auto transmission found its way to me last week...this one a 2WD version. This one only has 114K miles. I'm hoping it's in good-working condition, as it has low miles, and can be converted to 4WD with parts I already have...
Thanks guys. Greg, the frame is actually mostly stock paint at this point. I'll be coating the entire thing with Satin Black once the custom cab mounts are all done (prep will be easy).
First, after careful consideration, I decided to sell the aluminum flatbed I bought last winter. Instead...
Thanks. Yes, I was pretty impressed with her shooting, for sure.
We moved the cab up to the front garage earlier this week in preparation for the cab install on the Super Duty frame.
The FC cab is now leveled on the dolly fore & aft. I started taking several reference measurements on the...
Thanks! :)
I haven't made much progress this week, as I've been having too much fun being on vacation with my oldest daughter, Mira (almost 15 yrs. old). Mountain biking, gun range, animal park, etc. We've had a great time together.
(Single-speeding my Surly fat bike.)
(Mira's results...
I'm an Oberon guy, but tried a good Roundhouse IRA while I was there, too. Tasty!
The remnants of my (rough) former "Dan's Snowplowing" FC170 are almost gone, but the parts shall live on. I got both cab corners cut off tonight, and shelved for future patch panels for my lowers, shall I...
Thanks! Much appreciated.
Does Buffalo Bill ("Silence of the Lambs") come to mind? The 3rd-row Jeep Commander seats have been de-skinned for donor leather that'll be used for other FC cab accents (sun visors, grab bar wrap, etc.). For the $65 I paid for this set of seats, there is lots of...
I got the wiring harness removed (and labeled), along with the heater lines. The Cummins engine is looking leaner & meaner.
Warn also sent me this "I'm sorry our packaging on your last order sucked" package (Winch Accessory Kit, P/N 88900), which I received today. I'm thoroughly impressed...
I got the custom Saddle Brown leather arm rest covers installed. It took about 30-45 minutes each...well worth the effort! I'm really pleased with how they turned out.
Next up...custom sun visor covers in the same-color leather.
Much appreciated, John. I have a vision as to how it'll look when it's done (I'm an artist, and think that helps somewhat). I'm happy with how it's coming together, even though I'd prefer to stay home and work on the truck most days vs. going to work (completed faster). ;)
Thanks. I've used Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black on this truck, and most of my daughter's 2-door Cherokee project (among other projects). I'm very pleased with the finish. I haven't tried Eastwood's newer 2K Chassis Black yet, but it may be something to check out, as well.
Arrived this week...
Timken axle seals for the back of the knuckles (behind the unit bearings), and also where the shafts enter the axle tubes on the housing.
Shiny nuts. These M12 grade-10, zinc-coated flange nuts are for the coil spring seats. I didn't like the nylock ones I bought before...
Big thanks to my friend Kyle Jfor letting me swing by yesterday morning and sandblast my engine crossmember. While I'm modifying this thing to fit mid-frame, it'll be much easier to deal with clean vs. rusty & greasy.
I also received my Destroked Cummins engine mounts...
I set the Warn hidden winch brackets on the frame to see how they'd look. They're nicely-built pieces for only $40 each. I'll build a custom crossmember between them, which will be used to mount the front of the FC cab (2 body mounts up front).
I did go ahead and order a set of the Destroked...
Removing (for re-use) a Ford Super Duty engine crossmember is not for the faint of heart. Several hours, several more Sawzall blades, and a few grinder discs later, I finally have it removed. An exercise in patience, it was. A plasma cutter sure would be nice, but is not in the budget (and...
To quote Prince, circa 1992, "U sexy motherf#%&er."
Top coat is now done on the driver side knuckle (Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black). The passenger side will get done another weekend; for now, garage work is done, and it's movie time with my loving wife.
With surgical precision (not...
