Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

Thanks guys for using my rig as a reference. ;) It has been a fun project and she hasn't let me down in the now 15 years I have owned her. She turns 18 this month and is now old enough to vote! Now, I am kinda an old guy in my 5th decade and I am very select in where I drive her and I am...

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

Yeah I am in complete agreement of what Ocean City has become.? Especially considering the absolute mayhem at their big car show last year. There is a reason my family travels 3 1/2 hours south to the Outer Banks for our vacations! Grottos is a great pizza joint for sure, even Rehoboth bears no...

    2002 Tahoe "Expedition" build

So far, so good. I have not had the opportunity to really test them since we are now on our second "non" winter here in a row and I have not had a schedule that allows me to go exploring off the beaten path much. But so far they are wearing well and have good highway manners. There is some very...

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

Dude. Wow, that looks pretty darn good. Your Raptor bumper looks almost like it came with that front clip, maybe just trim back the ends a bit and the lines will all match up. Any plans to paint the conversion to match the body or leave as is? I admire your creativity. I don't think an Avy...

Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

I bought a Mechman 240 amp high output alternator in Dec 2018 when my factory alternator started to give wide fluctuations in voltage. The Mechman is very solidly made and required that I install a ground dedicated to the alternator itself. It has worked great so far.

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

I am impressed your wheel stayed attached after the way that bearing came apart. Just...wow! :eek:Since you are now living in the heart of Rust Central, make sure you are putting your stuff back together with a coating of anti-seize. Makes future work SO much easier. You may also want to look...

Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

Out of curiosity about the cost of this project, I just went to Offroad Design's website. This is posted on their site: "At this point in time we do not have a solid axle conversion for the 6 lug GMT800 trucks" Found here You gotta have either an older GM truck, or a 2500 series of the 2000 to...

Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

Rayra, the underside of your truck is so clean it almost makes me sick. Living in the rust belt stinks! When you put in your new hubs, make sure you coat things with a generous amount of anti-seize. You likely will have an easier time changing yours out than I did...mine took almost 2 to 3 hours...

    2002 Tahoe "Expedition" build

Thanks everyone for their continued interest in my old gal, and for their kind words. I am amazed that she still draws interest and I am humbled. A couple updates to add from this past couple of months... First - to answer some questions: This was one of my very first mods. I cut out the...

Anyone Retrofit an ARB Bull Bar for a Gen 1 Ford Expedition/F-150?

Well, I modified an ARB bumper for a Toyota Land Cruiser to fit onto my Chevy Tahoe. So, for your attempt to get an F-250 bumper to fit on an F-150 does not sound like mission impossible, at all. It just may take some creativity and some welding expertise.

That age-old dilemma: Double down or fold?

My Tahoe turns 17 in March, and it is paid for. No plans, whatsoever, to get rid of it. It is paid for and most repairs that crop up, I can tackle myself and save $$$. Personally I can't stand having a car payment, and this body style of truck is, IMHO, the last of the good full size SUVs that...

    2002 Tahoe "Expedition" build

Thanks for the compliment Bigred, I appreciate it a lot. I ended up replacing the bump stops with replacement factory ones since the "crunch" of hitting potholes got a bit old, the impact would be more severe without that extra bit of material. The payoff in articulation off- road was not worth...

2003 4x4 Suburban 2500 rear bumper mounted spare tire

Jelorian it appears that Photobucket has released the hostage photograph links. I just checked my build thread - which I had kinda just left alone since all the photos were broken - and discovered all the photos are back. The difference is that Photobucket puts a watermark on them indicating...

2003 4x4 Suburban 2500 rear bumper mounted spare tire

ClovisMan, that bumper looks great. I just went to their website and it not listed as an available Chevy product. He is doing himself a disservice by not having that as part of his available products menu.... he makes a nice looking bumper.

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

I will give you $120 for the Trailblazer intake manifold and related parts, you can double your money :D:p Seriously though, that is a really great find and I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out...and if it is worth the effort.

2003 4x4 Suburban 2500 rear bumper mounted spare tire

Now defunct Kennesaw Mountain Accessories used to make such a product, I have one on the back of my truck. Alas it required a good amount of cleanup for the price I paid. KMA has renamed themselves a few times and may still be making stuff, do not know. An idea that you can potentially do, if...

    GMT800 People - Opinions wanted on upgrades/mods

I would be remiss in not complimenting your rig Tom- nicely done. On one of my trips out West in 97 or thereabouts we rented that body style Expedition and I loved it. Did a lot of exploring of the Arizona Strip between Page and GC North Rim and it did just fine and held a ton of gear. Much like...

StomperXJ those roof rack brackets you designed in CAD look great. You gonna make them? I wouldn't mind trying to put something like that on my own rig, probably would get my roof rack an inch or so lower to the roof and look better too.

    GMT800 People - Opinions wanted on upgrades/mods

You don't need much to get out there and explore with your 2001. Just some good tires and doing a lift of rear coil spacers and front keys crank will get you enough clearance for most of your travel. Get the Z71 skidplates if your vehicle does not have any. Maybe get a plug in fridge for the...
