Here's one of my recent ones from Warner Lake in the La Sal Mountains. The sunset wasn't too shabby. ;-) Pretty good chance you'll find this one in my 2015 Utah scenic wall calendar!
I'm still in the process of building my FJ into a more capable overlanding rig. I'm not planning many more mods but I will install some LED lights on the front bumper, a fridge and a dual battery system. If I could figure out a way to store ~10 gallons of water without taking up too much room...
I'm most interested in the A7R. I'm trying to get my hands on one to test for a few weeks. If the results are as good as anticipated I might be willing to switch from my Canon 5D MKII system to Sony. I've long believed that Sony is the main innovator in the digital camera world and if I were...
A week or so ago my family and I headed down to Monument Valley for sunset followed by an overnight in Valley of the Gods. It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves at night and even though the moon was rather bright, the sky was still filled with stars. I hope this image conveys the...
Thanks so much! I've got dozens of these iPhone photos on my phone and I do enjoy going through them from time to time as they do trigger great memories.
This is an iPhone photo of my FJ on the uber-narrow shelf road that accesses Major Evans Gulch in the Wasatch Mountains above Silver Lake Reservoir. There are some seriously tight switchbacks on that road. Gorgeous scenery, though!
I bought a Canon EOS M to test out a few months ago. I'm thoroughly impressed. Image quality is outstanding, the LCD screen is gorgeous, it's easy to use and very compact. It's also only $350 with a 18-55mm lens. I didn't have high expectations for the camera given some of the reviews but...
Thought I'd post an update so all those who responded and followed the thread will know how I resolved the balance issue. Chip's Grand Tire in Moab installed Magnum Plus Balancing Compound, which are "ultra-smooth microbeads" that are placed inside the tire. The company website looks like...
Congratulations! I'm also considering a Tundra in the Crewmax configuration but not as an imminent purchase as I'm hoping they'll drop a diesel in one that gets better mileage than the gas motors. I'll be very interested in hearing your thoughts on the rig after you've got some time with it...
Just caught this news from a friend on twitter. B&H Photo has Adobe Lightroom 5 on sale for $99 until tomorrow afternoon. It usually runs $149. I've been using Lightroom to process and catalog all of my images for a number of years and can't say enough positive things about it. Incredibly...
Very good point and thank you for sharing it. I've lived in the desert for 25 years so it's common knowledge for me but those who haven't spent much time in a desert environment may not realize how dangerous water can be here. The deaths at The Wave this year illustrate your point well.
I remember a few years ago when they did some construction on the culvert there to keep that from happening. One of my friends who was a ranger at the time told me they were making it way too small to mitigate flooding. He was right. It's flooded a whole bunch of times since then. Glad they...
I live in Moab and found a little canyon with lots of potential for exciting images in the right conditions. Those conditions happen to be in a flash flood. Everything came together last week and I was able to make some photographs of a waterfall that only exists for a few hours each year...
The Tacoma has more room and more towing capacity with nearly the same off-road capability as a 4Runner. Mileage is almost identical. You'd need to budget enough for a shell to cover the bed to take full advantage of all the extra storage but a loaded Tacoma Crew Cab TRD 4x4 is about $3,000...
