    6.0 tranny cooler in 7.3

Well it's not a direct swap into the 7.3 trucks but yeah, you can install one in your van. Probably just need to get it plumbed in with whatever fittings are required to merge the differing sizes in transmission lines and some hardware to bolt the part into a place it was never intended to fit...

1986 Ford that's been sitting since 2008 -- what to expect?

My 1989 Ford has 35k original miles. Sat for about 12 years straight then another 3 then another 2. Have since driven 11k. Replaced battery, battery cables, starter, fuel pump, injector o-rings, fuel pressure regulator, all brake hoses, 1 caliper, all brake pads, shocks, tires, vacuum hoses...

    Manual transmission in a van?

Yeah I've read through there before. Nice van. Different generation, different engine, different transmission, different pedal assembly, different...well...everything. But a nice van nonetheless.

    Manual transmission in a van?

Well, they kinda did...they invested those resources in the E4OD (1989 introduction). It's the evolutionary successor to the C6. Added OD, TCC, electronic controls, bearings in place of bushings, etc. Same trick GM turned with the TH400, they updated it with OD, TCC, etc and renamed it the 4L80E.

    Manual transmission in a van?

C6 never had lockup torque converter and has the heaviest rotating mass of any automotive automatic. Also has thrust washers where newer models (E4OD, etc) use torrington bearings. I'm not ragging on the trans; I like mine but there are significant shortcomings in the efficiency department. Some...

    Rear spare tire carrier options.

Mine is an underbody tank. I was referring to running LPG to a generator in the basement of my dad's 5th wheel camper. I've thought before that the horizontal portable tanks have built-in brackets for mounting. Just swap in a vertical valve and bolt the tank wherever you want.

    Manual transmission in a van?

I have a Ford 4.9L (300 straight six) and a C6 automatic with 3.08 gears in my van. No issues with the combo at all. Pretty happy with the mileage even. BUT I found a great donor van with a 5 speed OD transmission. Factory Ford issue. Same wheelbase, same engine, so driveshafts are correct...

    Rear spare tire carrier options.

Re: LPG, just drill a hole in the door and install a bulkhead fitting. I like using an ell so the interior hose is vertical when stowed (door shut) then lays horizontal when the door's opened. Minimizes hose bend and keeps strain off the fittings

Van as a primary vehicle pros and cons

I bought a cheap (!) DD beater and drive the van like 1 day a week or as needed just to keep it active

Old College Kid (re)builds a Camper/Moto Van-1989 Ford EB SMB Penthouse

Picked up an underbody propane tank yesterday. Has the low fittings, so no body mods required. 10" D x 22" L. Several hundred dollars cheaper than new, in excellent condition. Holds 5.5 gallons, a little more than the "20 lb" size common to BBQ grills. Smaller than I'd like (the 32" long tank...

    1991 Ford E350

Better than fair price in my opinion. 351 and E4OD are good. Nice interior, pw, pl, rear AC, body looks great. That doghouse console is very nice and kinda rare. It folds out into a table. For $2k in my area a flooring guy would buy it and pull the seats to haul carpet.

Class C 4x4 to travel the western hemisphere- anyone done it?

My concern for a PanAm trip in a class C would be vehicle size. I would definitely keep it 22' or less. Acknowledge ahead of time your limitations going around the Darien Gap with regard to ferry regulations, etc.

    1985 4x4 Econoline - Road Trip Prep!

Electrical fires are caused by heat or a short. Heat is resistance, get a bigger cable. A short is an unisulated contact between positive and ground. Use good insulation. Starters do not cause fires.

    1985 4x4 Econoline - Road Trip Prep!

Nah, it's just like every other big DC motor driving a gear directly with no mechanical advantage. Inefficient and prone to running hot. The OE starter from a 1993 or newer 460 application is a big upgrade as they're Permanent Magnet motors with a Gear Reduction. PMGR for short. No idea about...

    1985 4x4 Econoline - Road Trip Prep!

There's an "optimal US road trip" floating around the Internet that takes you to all 50 states, all the major sights, etc. It's a 13,699 mile loop. It's at http://www.randalolson.com/2015/03/08/computing-the-optimal-road-trip-across-the-u-s/. Let's say the OP took that trip, as is, getting...
