Cost estimate to turn van into camper w/stove, fridge, toilet, shower, lighting, etc?

Disclaimer: Prices listed below are rough estimates based on retail as though you were building your camper out of a catalog with the least expensive components. Buying used, wholesale, on sale, clearance, eBay, etc can lower prices considerably on most items. Buying deluxe, premium or specialty...

Cost estimate to turn van into camper w/stove, fridge, toilet, shower, lighting, etc?

Not really a concern on vans as their wheelbase and forward engine placement make the rear driveshaft long enough to keep angles very manageable. Front driveshafts can be a bit tricky, but the established kits like U-Joint's take all the guesswork out of it.

Post Van Parts For Sale Here please

If anybody finds a used but serviceable propane tank for a van (underbody mount) I'm in the market. Seem to be a "right place, right time" item that doesn't turn up often used. Junkyards in my area intentionally punch large holes in them with their forks.

    Ford 8.8 rear axle repair/upgrades

Pretty much anything rwd and half-ton or below from Ford has an 8.8 since 1987. E-150, F-150, Expedition, Mustang, Ranger, Sport-trac...even IFS and IRS use the 8.8 centersection. GAWR for the 8.8 is higher than the 9" ever was. Overloading either axle is evidenced in wheel bearing wear first...

    Ford 8.8 rear axle repair/upgrades

Been doing LOTS of reading and it appears the Ford 9" axle in stock configuration has a lower GAWR than my 8.8". I think my best solution for now is to hit up a couple junkyards and see if I can pull a good shaft. If so I'll plug that into my housing with a new OE bearing and seal and see what...

    Ford 8.8 rear axle repair/upgrades

Made for Ford by Strange. No difference in that part and the one sold by folks like Summit or Jegs as a Strange part. Fits the smallest bearings and OE 28 spline shafts or aftermarket shafts made to that dimension. I have the largest bearings and OE 31 spline shafts. LOL What a crazy story...

My Black EB E350 van version 2.0

Stove looks an awful lot like an Igloo cooler. Weird, random thought: eskimos build igloos to stay warm...but igloo coolers keep things cold...hard to believe a better brand name couldn't have been conjured.

    Ford 8.8 rear axle repair/upgrades

Could be steel I guess. Maybe I just assumed based on appearance and that the others are aluminum? Must have. https://www.yukongear.com/productdetails.aspx?ProdID=10255 The brake backing plate bolt pattern on my axle prevents the installation of that kit according to their tech support. The...

    Ford 8.8 rear axle repair/upgrades

What kit did you use? Haven't found a steel one. Maybe the folks making it make one that'll work for me. I've checked Moser, Strange, and Yukon. Wider axles aren't necessary with most kits BTW but Yukon in particular does because they go from the small Explorer bearings to the beefy Set-20...

    Ford 8.8 rear axle repair/upgrades

I've got an E-150 with a leaking rear axle shaft seal. This seal is probably leaking because of a worn rear wheel bearing allowing the axle to follow an elliptical path and damage the seal and due to the axle's design of using the axle shaft as the inner bearing race, that probably means a worn...

Old College Kid (re)builds a Camper/Moto Van-1989 Ford EB SMB Penthouse

If it hadn't been quoted in its entirety I would just edit the erroneous post but it has so here goes: The specific heat is a function of the coolant formulation and temperature. The following equations can be used to calculate the specific heat of the coolant. For water alone, the specific...

up-to-date codes for this are ALWAYS available at various sites like retail-me-not, etc. Never found anything better than 5% off (except closeouts) and never ordered anything without such a code.

    Overland Sprinter Build

Your build is impressive and I'm a subscriber to your blog. Spent the last couple days catching up from the very beginning. I commented there and will cross-post here: I'm interested in the Isotherm SEC you installed on your fridge. The manufacturer's website gives very little info about it...

    Ideal tire size/gear ratio?

This^. I've logged nearly 200k miles in a 7.3 IDI truck and can tell you 2,200-2,300 rpm is perfect for highway cruise speed when loaded. It's a little high when running empty but ya just slow down a bit. Ironically, you can drive a little faster when lightly loaded and get the same or slightly...

Old College Kid (re)builds a Camper/Moto Van-1989 Ford EB SMB Penthouse

Unless someone had replaced the starter with a new PMGR, yes, your 85 351 and my 89 300 had the exact same starters and the same issues with them. I'm putting this here so I can find it later, a Drive Chuck Drive blog about kitchen stuff for camper vans. I like the idea of cookware that doesn't...

    Headlights

I agree but I use 2 relays, 1 high and 1 low. Independent circuits, triggered by the OE headlight switch with individual fused power leads straight off the battery. When you say "trip relays" is that gangsta for triple, or a brand of relay or a style, or? I assumed triple, hence my explain of...

Old College Kid (re)builds a Camper/Moto Van-1989 Ford EB SMB Penthouse

I'll post some meaningless pics sometime but this past weekend I swapped all 4 shocks, all 3 flexible brake lines, and the driver's seatbelt. Rotated the tires and bled in all new brake fluid too. Also realized I have a leaky axle seal on the driver's rear so I'm researching the best way to...

    Sofa Bed with Seat Belts

From the blog above, "As a side note, we’re not really sure who actually built the sofa bed. It was purchased from shop4seats.com, the packaging was branded with SeatCraft, and there are Atwood Manufacturing stickers on the frame, so yeah." Atwood makes the frames, as seen in their brochure...
