2000 Montero - Ship or Drive 2,000 miles

I agree. $1100 for shipping vs. an average of 1 mile per minute travel (60 MPH). Traffic, fuel, motels, showers, weather, food, restroom breaks...and these are the good stops. Take the worst case and think of your favorite horror movie. Stranded on the side of the road with no cell...

Need shocks, should I just get a lift kit?

Yeah but that will be years of saving up for good parts. I don't have much extra money...hate to be towed home for skimping out on quality. But yeah thanks for the reply. I think medium duty will fine for now. As I start getting into gears and axles, then it might be time to upgrade to heavy.

Need shocks, should I just get a lift kit?

I wish I could wheel more often and more harder, so yes the medium duty will be fine. Thanks everyone!

Ok I got it. No I do not plan on being real heavy. That clears it up with your set up example. Thanks!

Need shocks, should I just get a lift kit?

OK so OME HD kit is plenty fine? If I do run Bilstien shocks, just buy OME HD coils?

Need shocks, should I just get a lift kit?

I was waiting for tires. Ended up buying new wheels and cheap mud tires. A guy passing by made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Ok sounds good. What I like about OME is they only give you 2 options. Heavy or medium duty. I shopped for a long time finding a lift for my XJ. Bought it, never installed, sold it with the Jeep.

Need shocks, should I just get a lift kit?

Mostly its a daily driver. Not even long commutes, just down the road a few miles to take the kids to and from school. Some weekends, a few fire roads, but I plan on using it more on trails when everything is ready. My jeep buddies keep inviting me to Anza-Borrego. So its a slow build...

Need shocks, should I just get a lift kit?

Yes money...so just Bilstein shocks was enough? How do I order them today if I want coils next month? Is there a special part number or length?

Need shocks, should I just get a lift kit?

The pics I've seen for a lift involves 4 coils and 4 shocks. Are the struts/coils you are talking about the same?

Need shocks, should I just get a lift kit?

    I guess I should mention I have a 2001 Montero Limited.

Need shocks, should I just get a lift kit?

I know there's multiple threads on lifts and shocks, but I am confused about coils. I need shocks like corn needs the rain. Its becoming a safety issue throwing my truck around when I hit a bump on a curve. I shouldn't be drifting on the freeway bridge with BFG's KO2's!!! Heres what I need to...

Why does my gen 3 feel like crap on highway?

I had those Nokian MT's on my Ford Expedition. Little road noise, couldn't tell you about performance, that truck was only 2wd. And my gen 3 Montero shocks are original from 01 so they are beyond shot out, but rides fine with new BFG KO2's.

Man I feel his pain. I switched from cigs to dip, then realized my gums were getting jacked so I just quit my Grizzly wintergreen. Must say it was easier to give up the chew than smokes tho.

    Brake Bleeding 101

Thanks man I appreciate this. I couldn't ask my buddy this and insult him in any way after helping me. I don't own many tools (or a lift) so its a solid favor.

    Brake Bleeding 101

My friend changed my brakes yesterday on a lift in his shop. He replaced the rotors and pads in the front. Didn't bleed the brakes, just pumped the pedal a few times after the job was done. Is this normal? I trust my friend, just remember my older cars needed bleeding. Also remember it was a...
