    TerraLiner:12 m Globally Mobile Beach House/Class-A Crossover w 6x6 Hybrid Drivetrain

Hi Biotect, you might find the MV Hallaig interesting. It's a pioneering hybrid ferry built to sail between the Scottish islands on the west coast. I learnt about if from the life at the end of the road blog that Paul keeps about his off-grid existence on Raasay. A few of Paul's posts give...

webasto, Eberspächer, water heaters, which one to get?

What is the high pitched wine on the Webasto water heaters? I get the same on mine. I can't hear it inside the truck but it must be pretty annoying for anyone outside. I don't get the same noise on my eberspacher air heater.

    Kira Van at Sema

It looks like he borrowed my idea of re-purposing Vetus engine vents. I used them as in and out convection vents for cooling the back of the fridge. http://www.vetus.com/ventilation/air-suction-vents.html

    Chubb Pathfinder Fire Truck

The New Haven fire department were kind enough to show us round their building and I was intrigued by this veteran, apparently a foam truck. It looks to be at least 40 years old and far older that I'd expect to see in a working fire station. The front track is much wider then the back, not sure...

Does diesel heater 'downtime' mean they are poor at maintaing a constant temperature?

My eberspacher airtronic D2 doesn't work like this. It seems to have at least two heat settings; it start up full blast and unless you have the temperature control on full, it will cycle down to a lower heat mode. Depending on the ambient temperature, and the temperature setting you choose, the...

    Mercedes-Benz L608D ex-feuerwerk truck

Is the front mounted pump direct off the crank, or via a hydraulic pump? The drive could be used for something else, maybe a log splitter or winch.

On the subject of windshield protection......

The Mercedes dealers in the UK will have them on the shelf for sure, there's a lot of trucks with that cab still on the road. But shipping will be expensive I guess

    OBD monitors

I'm surprised this is so complicated for the Fuso. For my Mercedes truck I bought a £650 kit off ebay which included an old dell laptop with a cracked copy of Mercedes Xentry/Star software, a load of cables for all types of Mercedes vehicles, and an interface/multiplexer box that sits between...

webasto, Eberspächer, water heaters, which one to get?

I have a Webasto thermo 50 heater (C/E type kit) in my truck and have used a generic timer unit as Webasto do not make one for a 24v install. Mine will run indefinitely, although 48 hours is about the longest I have run it continuously. I have no experience of the Eberspacher water heaters but...

My 66 Unimog 404 Cartography Truck

It's funny how a vehicle can become an integral part of your life, it stops being just a mode of transport, becomes your home, and then also becomes a tool to let you connect with people. It's amazing that a pile of metal and plastic can end up shaping your life. Take care of the truck and...

    Jim the Truck - a mercedes 1823

After our recent trips I got another chance to monitor the fuel economy since arriving back in the UK, and was pleased to see that the English air is good for Jim's constitution, as we've been getting 9.5 mpg US (11.4 mpg UK, 24.8 l/100km). Last weekend we took a trip out to the Adventure...

    Mitsu Fuso Camper examples

At Jim's weight, the proposition of going to singles is a lot more expensive and complicated than on a Fuso size vehicle, where the the necessary tyres and rims are more common. Since our tyre troubles in Cortez I've considered the possibility of switching to using 445/65R22.5. These tyres...

    Jim the Truck - a mercedes 1823

I did consider this, although in my case I would have had to remove the towel rail to get such a fabricated tray in place. Another option that I considered was to have the tray sprayed with a hot applied bed liner product such as Line-X or Speedliner. Time will tell whether I made the right...

    Jim the Truck - a mercedes 1823

Thanks! It'll be a while until I have the money and goodwill from my employer to let me take any significant chunk of time off again, but I'd love to drive the route shown below. I had a little time recently to repair the shower tray which was cracked and rapidly disintegrating...
