Here is a link to a Chinook on a 2013 Tacoma where they made a pass through. He started his build thread on the portal, but moved it. https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/2013-toyota-tacoma-access-cab-chinook-build.1012449/
Looks like you were right. A competitor for the Subaru Cross Trek and the redesigned Jeep Compass. I also think that the tougher look and stance of the latest gen. 4 runner was Toyota's replacement for the FJ Cruiser. Especially in TRD Pro trim.
A shell for an access cab will fit a double cab and a T100. Width and length of the beds are the same. The DC bed is 3" deeper, but the cab is taller so the height of the cab over the bed stays the same. Here is a thread where it is discussed...
It wasn't just stiffness. I air them down to about 18 psi they are not to stiff then. I have run various tires ranging from mild ATs to MTs on several different rigs. The ST Max tires are heavy. I have liked the BFG ATs the most however my last set did not make it more than about 42k before...
I just took off a worn out set of ST Maxx tires. I did not think the weight was noticeable but it was. I have an 05 Tundra and run 285 70 17s. I ran the Maxxes a long time over a lot of terrain and even on an 8000 mile road trip to Alaska. I could feel the unsprung weight especially on...
I have taken my '05 Tundra up and down the Flint Trial switchbacks, to the Maze overlook, and the Dollhouse without any issue. Not even bumper damage. Here is a video of the truck on the Z turn on Dollhouse Rd.

I have noticed a slight loss, but I have never really measured it. The tires have been really good. In the summer of 2015 we spent 31 days on the road traveling to and from Alaska, and the tires were never to stiff or noisy.
Before you take Zidaro's word for it, read this thread on the ST Maxx Jim's experience speaks for itself. I too have run the ST Maxx, and have gotten a lot of mileage out of them and have been happy with their performance. However, I think I will be going with a lighter tire next time I buy.
Clutch I feel like I have agreed with you a lot on this topic. I like the idea of this vehicle and with many of the gimmicks removed it would be a great little family / mild explorer. My wife drives a little hatchback and loves it. While our Tundra is great the fuel mileage really cuts into a...
