Was meandering through old posts and wanted to check on your adventuring! Did that jobby job kill your traveling ideas?

    My Journey

Where you think you'll end up once this desert adventure is over? Might you spend some time in the fair weather forests of the Gila Wilderness and Gila National Forest? Some wonderful and remote spots in that part of the country. Weather is pretty nice right now and the area has flowing water...

Lets see some full size pictures...

Looks like Ram's are becoming more and more prevalent as a overlanding rig, and in Tex68w picture looks like they come stock with a winch friendly bumper? Clearly that aftermarket bumper in Manchilds photo looks good and seems to match well to the rig.

Open for debate: RV or Rig and trailer?

While we fell in love with the dream of a Dynamax, it really doesn't fit any of our needs or realities (but boy is it dreamy). We are going to focus, for now, on trailers with the comforts we need... and likely a 'toyhauler' so we can keep some bikes/scooters and have a 'porch' area (for...

Open for debate: RV or Rig and trailer?

All the responses and all the thoughts, it seems that a trailer and rig to tow it fit the needs most. Thanks all who opinionated, the input is needed and appreciated. Updates and debates to come.

Open for debate: RV or Rig and trailer?

I get the main advice here is rent some options to get a feel for what we want. We expect to downsize, but I think we got a little spoiled looking at the fancy RV's. We are minimalists when we go camping in the truck but we know we want to occupy some middle ground in terms of comfort and space...

Open for debate: RV or Rig and trailer?

R value... check. We will be in all sorts of weather, so i'll be sure to check that. I also read somewhere on here about aluminum frames because we like to go off road. That's a good point about slide outs, i had noticed that when they are 'in' they really limit useable space and I wondered...

Open for debate: RV or Rig and trailer?

It is super beautiful, inside and out and on the Ram chassis, super familiar. I had instant issues with the ride height and rear drag factor... where exactly would the 4x4 be useful was my first thought, then I started thinking about the costs of ride height adjustments, tires, wheels...

Open for debate: RV or Rig and trailer?

Slide outs are definitely going to be needed, the added space is invaluable in a 'small' living situation. A king bed (for us and the dogs) is a high desired item. We would like LNG stove and may be an oven, but can skip out on the fireplace (:0) if we really have too (sarcasm)... though it...

Open for debate: RV or Rig and trailer?

I'm finding that the money we assumed to save on rent and utilities gets gobbled up in maintenance, servicing, fuel and other expenses pretty quickly. We've determined a basic budget to include car and trailer payments and basic bills and 'living expenses'. We are going to have to redo that...

Open for debate: RV or Rig and trailer?

Great info to go on so far. We love to explore and we generally just camp out in the long bed of our truck, with the camper shell overhead. We want to maintain that kind of 'portability' with a rig, but we also recognize that if we are going to live in a mobile set up, there are some comforts...

Open for debate: RV or Rig and trailer?

Stars are aligning and things are working out and the dream of traveling the country while working from the road is almost a reality. The woman and I are able to finally make serious considerations as to what our home and travel vehicle will be for this adventure. We went and saw some RV's...

3 Years Around North America, Plus a Few More

Loved seeing the pics of Silver City and so glad to hear you loved it! The mines in and around Boston hill can be accessed, but are often done so by less than savory characters. Still, if you were able to the next time you are in town, they can be a real interesting walk around. Also, check out...

One backpack quiver for ski adventures, day hikes, and EDC?

national park depot dot com had some good deals on monkeypaks, the smaller 25lt ones with a water bladder. Mine serves me real well, with enough pockets for EDC and MOLLE for when you need to expand for your longer hikes/trips.

Winter camping in the Sierra Nevada

Just a few pics of the last camping trip of the year we did new years eve up by Lake Spaulding on Grouse Ridge. Was a beautiful spot, just below the snow line (with some around to play in) and no wind for the night. Wonderful camping. Also the first outing for our new pack member Artie, the...
