Two inch square tube. Base is made from a irked 2 x 12 channel that ties the floor into the walls. Floor and roof are 1/8” aluminum-all welded. Bare frame weighs about 890 pounds.
I built my camper out of aluminum. I used canon steel to build a sub frame. Aluminum sides are taped on. Its robust and thermally efficient (no cold bridges).
The answer is yes. The front part is called an FPU (Front power unit). It has a 450 HP supercharged 2 stroke diesel that is partially mounted in the drivers compartment. The rear section come in the form of a trailer, a crane, and self loader (shown). I have the trailer section that the truck...
There is an easier way. Steel Soldiers is a forum for folks like me that own these military vehicles. There are hundreds of us all over the country. Its a great group of people with most willing to help by using these trucks. You could join and post-you will get responses. You will discover a...
I have this truck to get myself and friends un stuck. It has a 20,000 pound hydraulic winch on it along with lockers on every axel along with 450 HP. It seems to always win.
The exterior is constructed with aluminum panels. The seam is under the temporary blue tape. I have aluminum rub bars being fabricated that will go over the seam.
Interior is done in one piece composite panels per wall section. Thanks for nice comment!
The truck is a 2019 F550 with the V10 gas. Came out of a Ram 5500 with Cummins. The Ram got 10 to 11 mpg. The Ford is getting a bit over 9 mpg. It has 4.88 rear with taller tires which the truck seems to like. Has lots of power. I like the simplicity of the gas over diesel. I went gas because of...
Mounted passenger side boxes and tore steps. Working on the driver side boxes. The rear has the beginnings of a hydronic system. Mounting out of the living quarters will make it safer and less noise. I have located pipe couplings in rear of box as well as into the side of the sub frame where hot...
This camper is a rebuild of a camper I built a few years ago. It was a turtle mounted on 3500 Chevy. I have gutted the body, added composite interior and added the cab over. I have mounted it to my truck today and took it for a ride. Its super stable around corners. I have all the water in the...
Wrapping this up. Built a set of steps that provide a place to place boots and shoes upon entry. Added a little lockable enclosure for stuff and things and stuff. Final finishing of cab over portion. Plan on mounting on truck this weekend.
I used the 1" square extrusions. They can go together in several ways with various 80/20 fittings. I then made drawings for bending the aluminum and making the doors. I generally like them, however they are a bit cold in asthetic and feel.
Built a retracting base for toilet. I have fabricated out of Star Board. is guided by a pair of stainless steel drawer slides. Four wheels on underside support the base as it slides in and out. I am installing a Natures Head composting toilet on the base,
The toilet slides out of the way when...
Had a 2016 that started to have issues at 16,000 miles. Used for camping and driving trails (slow speed). Probably worst thing you can do with a modern diesel. Went to a gas truck.
