    All Things 3.4 Swap

PS I'm still running an auto ECU with my 5 speed truck. Runs great. It throws codes looking for the trans solenoids and such but removing my CEL fixed that promptly. Obviously I live in a place not requiring emissions testing. I haven't had any other codes other than a bad TPS at one point-...

    All Things 3.4 Swap

I just posted this over in the Burro thread- I figured I'd cut and paste to here just for the sake of accumulating information. My wiring situation was quite straightforward, as long as you have all the proper diagrams it's not a terrible task. I did a real basic initial wiring job using wire...

    El Burro - 1989 4Runner Build

My wiring situation was quite straightforward, as long as you have all the proper diagrams it's not a terrible task. I did a real basic initial wiring job using wire nuts so I could switch things around as necessary and then soldered and shrink wrapped everything once I knew it was good to go...

    All Things 3.4 Swap

Any Tacoma or 4runner '96-'02. Also '96+ T100s and you would have the correct oilpan. Personally I would avoid '01-'02 since they went to throttle by wire which creates some more issues to deal with when swapping to an early truck. The way to go is to buy a complete junk vehicle and part...

Man that thing is a beaut! I really want some of those stripes for my pickup. I feel like someone was making reproductions of them for a little while, but I can't remember where...

Thank goodness, no. I wouldn't ever get anywhere! My wife's GX has airbags but my other cars are all pre-90's.

    El Burro - 1989 4Runner Build

That's exactly how my swap went. I think I was in it for 100-200 bucks after parting out everything I could off the junk 4runner I bought. I also have tons of notes, wiring diagrams, etc...from my swap- a lot of it is only applicable for my specific motor and chassis combo, but it could skip...

    Old's Cool

I'm really happy with my OME dakars and slightly longer shackles on my '89 pickup. I went medium and it does fine with a load of **** and Wildernest. There are occasions where the heavies would probably be better but for the most part it's good to go.

http://wildernest.proboards.com/ It was never terribly active but there's some action on there, I think I found some parts I needed for mine on there a few years ago.

Here's a pic to give you an idea. The cab/topper gap is a little awkward but not unliveable. They fit single cabs a lot better since the angle of the cab is significantly different. Disregard piles of gear and happy wife. And single cab. Kind of poor angle but you can tell that gap is a...

    Old's Cool

That truck is totally worth finding a fresh (or not that fresh even) 22re and slapping it in there. I love your comment about "overlanding"! We used to call it car camping and usually it was in an old honda wagon or bmw...

Oh my god I've had that plenum off so many times on my 3vzes it's ridiculous. I think I actually had the vacuum diagram committed to memory for a while. So easy to either forget a hose or connect it improperly and it runs like a turd. I would regularly replace that little o ring on the idle...

I'm always skeptical of quick fixes but I've had great luck with seafoam to clean up the inside of the motor some. My old 3vze was consuming a ton of oil for a while and pretty much quit using any after running a can or two of seafoam through the intake. Must've loosened up some crap on a...

I'll add to the 4.88 support- awesome gearing for 33's. Very straightforward swap. I did the 4.88s before the 3.4 and it was a game changer for the 3.0- stock gearing is absolutely terrible. xlcaferacer is right about the diff drop with good axles, I have one in my truck only because I got...

My friends here in Salida are selling their Wildernest. I think she's asking $1500 and it's in great condition. Contact me if you want any more details. Make sure you check out the Old's Cool thread if you haven't already. It seems right up your alley and is plum full of cheap dirtbags. My...

Are you planning on relocating your license plate? I'm always paranoid about that, occasionally my trasharoo slides over on the tailgate and blocks it.

the very beginning of a Tacoma Build

Personally I can live without the bumper, sliders, etc...but it all depends on what sort of areas you're going to be exploring. Generally when my truck is fully loaded with camp gear, mtn bikes, SUPs or kayaks, I'm not terribly interested in hitting the gnarliest trails I can find. I have an...

Awesome truck and it looks like you have some great access to fun places to explore! I've not ever used maxtrax to vouch for how important they are to have- but having just a tow strap and hi-lift can save your *** (and whoever else you might run into). I've used the hi-lift on a few occasions...
