The EMT kit came in handy - my buddy came up in his 4runner which he just had 34" MTs installed - with NO fender flares.
Going up the trails in Lassen, there was a lot of standing puddles and mud because of the recent rains. As he was enjoying the MTs in the mud, a bunch of ******** got into his...
Just a quick reply - I'll do the full trip writeup after work today (Pacific time..)
For the alternator waterproofing, I started looking into older rovers and how they handled the issue.
First thing to note, series and defenders place the alternator at nearly the height of the airbox. They...
Thanks for the tip on Kydex.
The Camp Chef is extremely sturdily constructed. Everything is nicely welded together and powder coated.
I bought the carrying case which matches the stove, the legs detach and stow in the case. You’ll need to pack it just so to avoid the legs clanking together...
Alright another quick update:
I finally got around to fixing the tire rubbing on the 32” tires. It was really quite easy.
I took a 4lb mini sledge to each frame horn, beating it into submission as best as possible.
After that I took a die grinder to them and burned up a few Harbor Freight...
Love the chemex in the pelican case - I have one too and I was wondering what to do about the glass!
I just messed around with the tire - I have the tow hitch, which seems to interfere a bit as well, bt from my fit test, the plastic heat shield seems to be what’s in the way the most.
Also...
Hahaha PayPal Credit to the rescue ?
I got the roof rack spare carrier in case a) I can’t fit the 32” tire under the car b) once I have the rear armor and tire carrier, for longer trips like doing Baja California Sur Id like to take two spare tires, one on the rear and one on the roof rack.
Quick update:
Im going on an overland trip next weekend to Klamath or Lassen near the Cali-Oregon border. I bought a crap-ton of camping/glamping/overlanding stuff. Some has arrived, everything else is in transit to me.
Vehicle Side:
Jerry Can and Front Runner mount
45L water storage tank...
Well, the ECU and locking motor are definitely different. Also I believe the LR3 has a 31 spline axle and the LR4 has a 29 spline axle.
http://www.4x4proyect.com/pdf/arb-parts-rd217.pdf
Its possible one could swap the LR3 non-locking rear carrier and rear hubs (31 spline) to an LR4 and then...
I haven’t heard that before - I reached out to ARB R&D a while ago and they said they halted development of the LR4 rear locker due to lack of interest/market and the fact that most people that use their LR4s hard already have the factory locker.
I’m not sure why they’d develop an LR4 rear if...
Got the new “open diff” as advertised on eBay. Because they had pics of the vehicle vin plate I was able to use Topix to confirm they were selling the locking unit but didn’t know what they had.
Freaking eBay, order the locking unit, get the open diff, order the open diff, get the locker...
Hey @Victory_Overland! Thanks for the compliments :)
Ill take those measurements and get back to you.
The APT control arm armor is aluminum, the air tank armor is aluminum, and the air compressor is zinc coated and then black powder coated steel - its pretty heavy duty.
Another update...
Thanks, I've run past those posts before, but I havent seen an actual writeup or walkthrough before!
Another update - I installed the APT control arm armor, compressor armor, and air tank armor.
I also installed the Front Runner drawer system.
Loving the armor - I have a request out to APT...
