M105A3, with 16.5" tires, surge brake

Just took it out for a 2000 mile spin. LOVE it. Lots of looks cause it just looks CRAZY. Tire/rims are off a M106A1 tandem deck over. Four jerrry cans for remote fuel issues if encountered. We did throw a bunk up and in the front for the young ones to sleep in while in rest areas driving to our...

    Real life MPG numbers wanted.

Just did 2000 miles with this set up, trailer creates camperlike drag (can see it on leading edge of tarp). Flat calm 65 mph, at 2100 rpm (4:10's) around 11.???. Then tried 70 mph, 10.????. Then whilest in UP Mich. at 50mph on straight backroad got 15mph. Coming home went 75, 10.??, so no real...

Heavy Duty Bumpers for Expedition/Overland Use: Practical Necessity or Superfluous an

I perfer non stock bumpers (or a guard out front), just too many animals out there to hit and damage things, that said I HATE most flimsy aftermarket ons, they simply "hold the dent/damage in" after any REAL contact. I have built several, and this was my latest "quick" effort for a trip north...

any thoughts on the bfg commercial traction tires?

I used to run those ALOT. I had them n 3/4 tons and loved them. then a half ton, I think the half ton was too light and they wore funny. I like them (for a 16" tire) I run all 19.5's for my F350 and 550. Mostly road driving. Jronwood

The Belafonte - aka "Poor man's EarthRoamer" Ambulance Build

Also, FYI, one guy on here took a Westfila fiberglass top and cut a hole in his roof of an ambulance and made it taller. Good idea, and given how well these things are constructed it can certainly take the hole in stride. He flanged his around the opening so no water could get in even if it...

The Belafonte - aka "Poor man's EarthRoamer" Ambulance Build

GREAT rig, and great idea...... I have a body I wanna make into the trailer. Also, I have a FC80 Freightliner CC mothballed but too big to convert for now anyway. I also found this 7.3 unit for a friend, only $3200 CRAZY deal. Was a plumber or HVAC guy, they could not find someone to buy it...

    Tarps: myth or legend?

I think if you REALLY want it to be effective, you first need a GOOD FRAME to support it from underneath. Then either have custom one made at a tractor trailer (TT) tarp company, OR find an Army tarp from an M101 trailer. They are 5'x8' trailers and should be available from ebay and surplus army...

    STAY AWAY from ALCAN SPRING!!!!!!!!

Alaska, Sorry for your hassle. One note that in the end got/gets no current attention is the "dually option" for your rig. I too have had friends with Yota duallys, and it may help you get more out of your rig. The obvious "wanting a solution" to your spring dilema aside. Your rig is cool, and...

    diesel generator???

I was going to make a gen out of a single cylinder Yanmar and a HD tractor trailer alternator unit a buddy made me an offer on the Yanmar I could not refuse. Keep in mind you can idle the motor way down and still produce 12v inot your battery. I want to carry just one fuel, diesel. Jronwood

    diy awning

I am going to use triple layer acrylic (like greenhouse panel) and surround it with aluminum channel, and have it slide under my roof rack. Fast, easy, and simple Except to build it. So, it will be 8' long 7' wide and likely be supported by swing out mini trusses (no legs or angled supports)...

    Trooper question

I once had a Trooper, dont remember what year (earlier "boxier" version than the one you linked) , but I put two head gaskets on it and one head. Miserable. I loved the layout, and the function, but YIKES, that engine SUCKED. Too bad they didt put an Isuzu diesel in it, that would have been...

    Mid-Frame Mounted Winch

Use more than one mount point, like two reese style recievers, spaced at the,.say the frame width. This truck already has a permanant winch in the back, but look at the top of the frame rails. This is how I make mounting point for just about everything. I may have a removeable back hoe tied into...
