ExPo Project: 1991 Land Cruiser Prado SX (LJ78)

While I'll admit that an aluminum head on a cast block has some challenges associated, some of the most durable engines toyota built had them. 20r, 21r, 22r, 1fz-fe, all of the "S" family (3S-FE), 5M-GE, 7M-GE, 2JZ family, 3RZ-FE, 2TR-FE, 1KZ-TE, 1KD-FTV and 2KD-FTV--and that is only the...

Request: photos of child seats in the back of your 80

You can use the infant carrier with the base in the center position but you can't use the base on the sides unless you move one of the front seats up quite a ways--may not be an issue if you or the wife is under 5'8". You can put a person in the middle, but it isn't very comfortable. I have 5...

    Salcano Bikes....Any impressions?

Took the first ride yesterday--the frame is pretty comfortable for a rigid and the terrain I was on didn't lend itself to a lot of shifting so I was pretty satisfied. If I got into some steeper country I would feel the components a little more I think. I put in 10 miles or so with no issues...

    Salcano Bikes....Any impressions?

I got one put together yesterday--needed some pretty serious tuning and maintenance. It took three partials to make this one--had to retension the rear wheel, true both wheels, repack the bottom bracket, major adjustments to both derailleurs, replace two brake pads, and make a seatpost...

    I'm looking at this truck

Agree with Kurt--no issue with those two things. That isn't bad mileage for a 94--I'd hardly let the motor be your deciding factor. I would do a bubble test though--get her nice and warm during a test drive, stop, pop the hood and pull out the overflow bottle cap *part way* so the tube is...

    Salcano Bikes....Any impressions?

Hi Folks, I am currently in southern Afghanistan and don't have a whole lot of extra time, but there seem to be an abundance of Salcano bikes around. I am an avid cyclist back in the states and ride an old Trek 930 hardtail on the trails and a Lemond Zurich on the road. I don't like running...

    2013 Land Cruiser arrives

I know its an old thread, but there are plenty of the bare bones 200s here in Afg and I wouldn't mind having one. Anything has to be better than my 120 prado with the gutless LJ diesel....

To Drawers or not to Drawers

I definitely agree that the space taken up by drawers is precious.... just one thing to add--a queen sized airbed or pad will fit nicely above the wheel wells, between them, not so much. I like having a platform to store bins underneath and it is very cheap to make...

Thinking of switching over to an 80 series, please help!

Not a bad idea either. I considered one of those before going with the 80--the v6 in the Montero lacks a bit of grunt compared with the 100, but a solid ride nonetheless.

When do you learn to trust a new to you truck?

I would give you a direct link but mud is blocked from gov computers in afghanistan. If you search for "bad ecu codes" or "bad ecm codes" it should pop up. This may work: forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/572410-93-fzj80-bad-ecu.html If all else fails, send a pm to semlin--he had that problem...

Thinking of switching over to an 80 series, please help!

True on both counts--I would love to have rear air on the 80 and the 100 does seem to fit his stated needs pretty well.......until the front diff gives out (ducking for cover) Not to beat that dead horse anymore--my vote goes for the 100.

When do you learn to trust a new to you truck?

Those codes are the death knell for your ECU/ECM. The good news is that it is not a big deal. AFAIK, the only symptom of the bad ECU is the codes--it still manages the engine just fine. This is relatively common on the 93s and you can get the later ECU pretty cheap if you want to change it.

Thinking of switching over to an 80 series, please help!

I agree that the 100 series is another good choice, but in this particular case the OP is coming from a pretty well built XJ--giving up that capability and going all the way to an IFS front end may be a tough pill to swallow...

When do you learn to trust a new to you truck?

You might have the codes pulled(they will be in the memory) and post them--we may be able to help put your mind at ease or save you some time/money down the road. I would also get one of those emergency start kits to keep in the back--has air, battery pack etc.

Thinking of switching over to an 80 series, please help!

I don't think you will regret it. If you can find a well maintained 80, you shouldn't need to buy parts that often and when you do, most places have them or can overnight them from another store. I have 5 kids and they love the 80--I would add a DVD player or DVD headrests though. I spent a...

    91 Cruiser....Buying Advice

Properly tuned, the 3fe will run down the road just fine. If you adjust your kickdown cable correctly and advance your timing a bit, you will be amazed at the difference. Also, 4.56 gears matched with 285s will hit a sweet spot on the road. Even more so if you just move up to the 265s. You...

    Gas Masks for sale

Hi folks, I have two MSA Millennium masks with filters. Both masks are new, one is in the package and the other one is not. The one without the package has been put on, but never actually used. Both have drinking tubes and hard lens covers. Price is 200 for the NIB unit and 160 for the one...
