    Vehicle Shopping

The 100 series is more comfortable, but gets worse MPG. I would definitely go with a 2000+ model to get the A-TRAC as well.

Brand suggestions for Vintage steel frame

Grrr.... Research shows it to be most likely not worth $300--straight gauge tubing, entry level group. I still like it though....

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/ssd/bik/3554017319.html Any thoughts on this Bottecchia? This is just about perfect but listed as a 58cm. My calibrated eyeball tells me that it is a 61cm. Am I off?

Brand suggestions for Vintage steel frame

Thanks for the insight! Solid info on these bikes has been pretty slim (or blocked by gov computers) I'll definitely pass on this one. I have been keeping an eye out all over SoCal and have found 15 or so bikes that perfectly fit the bill--none in my size. No hurry though... Thanks again! Dan

Final Sanity Check on Price for 2002 Landcruiser w/114k Miles

That seems to about what they are going for in San Diego with that mileage as well. Bump up 50,000 miles or a a couple years older and you can get one for 14k....

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/bik/3506217106.html Anybody have any thoughts on the old Steyr Clubman? I read somewhere that it isn't a great quality bike, but haven't been able to confirm that... If it is reasonable quality, I think this one fits the bill pretty well...

Thoughts on purchasing a formerly leased 100-series?

There is no major maintenance needed before 90k so no worries there. What year is it? As said above, I wouldn't let the fact that it was a lease factor in to your decision at all. A well maintained cruiser is a well maintained cruiser... Pics?

Need an 80 series front bench seat!

My kiddos are pretty good sized--my 3 year old just uses a high back booster, but yes, the 2 year old's car seat would take up a lot of room. The more I think about it the more a shoulder belt is pretty much required.. I thought about selling the 80 and getting a DC tundra before the 5th...

Need an 80 series front bench seat!

Fair question, and one that I had thought as well. Two solutions--either disable the airbag system on the passenger side or have one of the older kids ride up front. I am no auto engineer, but it seems like the airbags wouldn't be designed to cover that area--there is quite a bit of space...

Need an 80 series front bench seat!

That isn't a bad idea and may end up being cheaper than shipping a seat from overseas. I could use the existing anchor points for a lap belt and a spare third row latch to allow it to fold into an armrest. Add a couple of recessed cup holders for when it folds down and have it upholstered to...

Need an 80 series front bench seat!

There aren't many 80 series in afghanistan but every other variant here is LHD and is offerred with the front bench--I haven't seen a 60 yet though. If I could find an 80 to swap the seats out of here, I would, but they frown on that and won't let me go to the local junkyard either....

Brand suggestions for Vintage steel frame

60-64cm is my normal range, I rode a 59cm LeMond for a while but it always felt just a little too small. My current LeMond is a 61 and fits perfect but I have plenty of seat post showing. Thanks again! Dan I have been keeping an eye out on the socal Craigslist sites to see if the wife can...

Need an 80 series front bench seat!

Hi folks, For those who don't know, I have 5 kids and a dog, and really like my cruiser. The problem is that I have to use all of the seats if the family is going anywhere, leaving little room for cargo and the dog. I have a roof rack and double hitch carrier with airbags in the rear, but...

Brand suggestions for Vintage steel frame

All of those bikes look good, but none are quite what I am looking for. Something along the lines of the Raleigh I posted would be ideal--that particular one is 555 SL tubing made in 84 or 85 but it is supposed to be pretty good steel. A slightly older GS would fit the bill even better...

the "i dont know **** about bikes" thread

That is an insane amount of riding. Last spring the kids and wife hadn't caught up to me in San Diego and I had nothing to do but work and ride the bike. An hour or so (18 miles) most mornings and the mornings that I didn't get in a ride I usually rode for an hour at lunch. 32 mile hammerfest...

Brand suggestions for Vintage steel frame

Hmm.. I would love to see a pic of the Peter Mooney frame (and any of the other larger frames you have for that matter). I haven't brazed anything but copper pipe in a long time, but I think I could swing the seat stays--probably have a shop do it to keep from messing things up though. You...

Brand suggestions for Vintage steel frame

I decided to pass on the ross, but the wife is looking at this gem later today for $200... Hoping it works out. Raleigh Competition (mid range bike for its day). A bit on the flashy side, but I think the chrome is tasteful. The seller doesn't know the size but based on the headtube I am...

Is a Land Cruiser right for me?

The newest 80 series in the states is 16 years old. Keep that in mind and you won't be disappointed. I have had 3 (93,94, and 97) and have had no serious issues. 93 bought at 150k, wrecked at 170k; 94 bought at 130k, sold at 170k; 97 bought at 165k currently at 210k.

Brand suggestions for Vintage steel frame

I can't view the listing as ebay is blocked in afghanistan, but it sounds like a neat machine. I am not crazy about the french sizing on things, but it isn't a deal breaker. Shipping from MO to CA may be a bit much. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing a pic though. Good point about the...
