Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

Vans are definitely nice for people and cargo hauling. The wife will love it as she is constantly picking and dropping off kids (ours and neighbors'). Good to hear that the 2WD does ok in the winter. I would imagine the NV would do even better due to its weight(?). But that's just daydream...

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

Nothing decided yet, but come next year, I might have to do just that. The garage won't comfortably fit a minivan and the truck. So instead of getting rid of her Subaru, I might have to trade the truck in for a minivan (gag) and drive the Sub. If that happens, I'll definitely get a trailer...

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

Well, on the other hand, too low of miles could mean trouble as well. Seals don't get regularly lubricated, as well as the engine, etc. - I looked around for a low mileage truck as well, before buying mine. But with the gas prices where they're at (and were at 2 years ago), they were almost as...

Is a Land Cruiser the right choice

I was ok with the LC recommendation (or the Gen 1 Sequoia) until this comment. You need the 5.7. Not want--NEED! I had a 100, towed with it, and only a 3-4k lb trailer. It struggled up grades. - If I were in your shoes, I would get an 08+ Sequoia with the 5.7L. It will do what you need...

What vehicle is right for me

I've got 2 kids, and no way would I even consider a Cherokee. I would go with a Grand Cherokee, at a minimum (if you were going with a Jeep). They could probably be had for cheaper price as well, and the Pentastar V6 gets good MPG. - I would still vote a Subaru, either a Outback or Forester...

Breathe. Enjoy life. :D One thing I like about this Domestic forum is the light atmosphere. Campfire at midnight type of chat. Unfortunately, you seem way too uptight for that. Sorry, putting you on the ignore list. Have a good one. :)

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

Hey, Dalko -- until you actually buy a diesel and run it 350k miles, ain't interested in what you've got to say! :D - I do hope emission tech gets better/more reliable with diesels, though. I know that's been a sore spot for diesel fans. Some of who, unfortunately, take matters into their own...

What vehicle is right for me

Before jumping into a diesel, please be aware of what comes with that. Be familiar with the extra maintenance. Look up regen issues. Diesels are nice, but not magical engines. Applicable in certain situations, but in my opinion, would end up costing you more.

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

I wouldn't consider engine life to be a factor for either the gas or diesel. To say diesel will last longer than gas is outdated rhetoric. A family member is a life long GMC fan and has had 3/4 ton trucks for well over two decades. Always bought new, run hard to 200k miles, averaging 40k per...

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

I'll try to dig some up. I was just browsing and didn't keep track. - In our part of the country, at least some resemblance of high clearance and 4WD is almost necessary. For those reasons alone, vans just don't work, unless you're talking sports mobile and the likes (but $$$$). I was fondly...

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

Yeah, me, too. No tune for me. Stock has plenty of power. 33's, pulling a 5k lb trailer, bed full of cargo and 6 people inside, and I had power left over. Passed cars up grades with no issues. Yeah, I'm good with that. :D I've been watching some truck vids of people doing some tough trails in...

Until you hear that turbo ka-blaaaooww! :D Yeah, that's one nice thing about the diesels. Great mileage/range, no doubt about that.

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

Yeah, the HD is available for Super Crew for sure (only in 6.5' bed). I haven't confirmed, but I'm sure Supercab as well. 5.0 is an excellent engine for sure. I just love the turbo kick too much! :D - EDIT: Yeah, looks like it's available for all three cab configs. Only 164" wheelbase for...

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

Yeah, the 2.7L gets screwed with 6,500lb GVWR while 3.5 and 5.0 get 7k. I thought it was just suspension, but apparently, the axles, springs, etc. are all different. Oh well. I'll enjoy the softer ride hauling my daily load of a shovel and 3 tie downs. :D - Also, do note he said 1,500lb PLUS...

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

Ha ha, you sound like my father-in-law! :D Any time we overload his trailer (only rated at 1,200lbs payload, and he's regularly at 2,000+)--"ah, just cinch her down good. Ain't going nowhere." One time, we were so heavily loaded, it was scary. The blown shocks all around didn't help. Thought...

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

Man, I bet most overloaded trucks have survived ok. But so have most people who don't wear seat belts. :sombrero: Carry insurance. Run bald summer tires. I guess we all have our tolerance for risk. For me, I do trust the ratings (and even feel sometimes they're a bit too generous). And...

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

And I'm not sure what your price point is, but honestly, GMC 3/4 ton with the 6.2L is pretty sweet as well. No 3/4 will have the MPG of a 1/2 ton, but keep it stock and keep up on maintenance, and you'll have a dependable truck for your journeys. MPG won't be horrible, though (again, if you...

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

In my opinion, neither. Ram - I don't think your needs justify a diesel and all the baggage that comes with it. Tundra - Just won't have the payload. You say it's adequate, but most 4WD set ups are going to be around 1,500lb payload. Now, that INCLUDES passengers as well. You will be over...

So how's it been after almost a year of ownership? Any issues? Buyers remorse? Looks like you got some mods on there.
