Having spent stupid amounts of money on 22R's years ago, I am firmly in the swap to a newer motor camp.
The best combo I had was 20r head that had the chambers welded up and reshaped to mimic the 22R's. It was then ported within an inch of it's life. I cut apart a couple old heads to get port...
Much more than stock redline gets hard on parts, these motors have a horrible rod ratio. Elgin and Schneider both make good cams for them. The intake manifolds do not flow well and the exhaust is pretty bad to. A properly sized turbo works wonders. A stock CT20 off a 22RET is junk.
What you need is to open up a bleed hole. This will stop the small stuff from transferring to the chassis and still have valving for the big hits.
Also, these shocks are not to much for what you are doing. They have a lot of adjustment which cheaper units do not.
Depends on your driving conditions. Similar to a Bronco tailgate, street driven ones last forever. Head down some washboard roads and a few hundred miles later the skin is separating from the door. This is why you see the swing out tire carriers mounted to the bumper.
No wear parts, the only time I had to tap the brakes was if one tire was in the air. If both tires are on the ground even just barely, you will not need to.
Thats not that much shavings for a new set of gear. Did you rub it between your fingers to determine particle size? Very fine is ok. large and chunky is not.
Be aware that they need to rotate a little to engage. They work of ramps, the rotation drives the pins in. When you reverse, they disengage and then re-engage. If you are trying to do this quickly under power it will round off or shear the pins.
Worm gear diffs are TBD's (Torque Biasing Differentials). Unless you have a Wavetrac as they have a clutch in them along with the worm gears.
Short wheelbase vehicles are a lot more sensative to front lockers types. I ran a few different types in My old Bronco.
Open, good on the street and in...
Keep both your shocks the same. Getting off the shelf shocks in different lengths with the same valving would be problematic. Even if they were listed as the same I doubt that they would be. You also need to leave some travel at full droop as your springs will extend a little further when they...
