How about no need to get a package for a locker. I built a Silverado a while back (just out of curiousity, no intention of buying) and you can get one for like 3 or 4 hundred extra on a base model 4x4. I'd love that option from the factory. PLus, more trucks out there with lockers!

When you say "exploring," what do you have in mind? If you are hauling a wife, 3 kids, and a dog the 4 runner might be too small. For most scenarios, I would say it is a very adaptable platform.
Don't have any experience that could help (wish I did). I can't help but think if you're looking at a big platform like full size diesels, you should be able to make it work. Definitely a challenge from overseas, though.
