    New trucks and 4low...

Heck, I still start my jeep in second as its first gear is silly low.

    Connectors and crimpers

I love all the connector and crimp tool/die geekery in here. Its fantastic! Keep on crimping on! I myself just ordered a bunch of DT series stuff as I have the tools for those already. Weeee!

    New trucks and 4low...

Yep. Even still, I know a lot of boat owners who get 4x4 trucks for that low range when launching boats. I kind of miss the radio delete plates, lol. Or the just AM/FM radios... We're planning on keeping our '03 Sierra until the chassis falls apart, its only a 2wd but I'm starting to feel like...

    New trucks and 4low...

When I bought my wrangler it was HARD to find one with no options, as it is I'm still super happy with the no-frills it has. Soft top, six speed manual, crank windows and manual locks, simple radio and AC. I wish it didn't come with carpet or had vinyl/rubber carpet tho. As it is I bedlined the...

    New trucks and 4low...

So, my partner and I are sort of in the process for looking for a commuter/dd car or truck and as part of that we went to go check out some new GM trucks to see what was up with them. All the new engine and transmission options that we saw from the 15 or so we looked at were fine, and about half...

    Los Angeles -Class Attack Sub(urban), Build / Collected Werks topic - '02 k1500 Z71

I just replaced the housings in my partners truck as well and the difference was night and day. The orginals were BAD and I've never heard good things about the polishing/clearing kits. It really makes a difference in our old trucks!

    My 2WD F150 adventures

Fun times! 2wd trucks can get a lot more places than people really give them credit for. Throw a little more ground clearance in, aggressive tires, airing down and a limited slip or locker in the rear and they do REALLY well. Momentum and ground clearance are a bit more important. I'm...

Ours isn't too low, but its still low enough that it was catching anytime that she had to cross a ditch or go over a tree or something. The front skid/splash guard thing all but destroyed as well. We're going to dig into the front bumper and pull the plastic bit off this weekend to see what can...

I'm a bit jealous of your front approach angle there... ours is not nearly that good.

    Colorado / Canyon bent frame

People already complain a lot about offroad specific models having less towing/payload rating, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen.

I'm really interested in hearing how these wear for you.

Ah, ok. cool. Ours is a little bit taller than that, so that might be why. I'll get some measurements in the next few days.... Gotta say that in general I'm impressed with how well the rear leafs ride and articulate on these trucks.

The Deaver mini-pack is an option still so its good to hear that they're working out that well. What length shocks are you running on your truck and did you run into any issues with the brake lines or parking break cables? Our truck currently has an add-a-leaf in the back, so the back is...

Lets see some full size pictures...

From this past weekend... We spent a good 4 hours screwing around in the forest above Pinecrest, CA. The Sierra is my partners and 2wd with the factory locker, a little bit of lift and some 33" tires and it got up/over/around a LOT of stuff I was not expecting it to. Up next for it is a bit...

    Overlandtowater’s solid axle suburban

We need to get you some crimpers, they're less of a pain for that kind of work. Also, where did you get that headlight harness? My partners truck needs some headlight rewiring done and I don't really want to make one from scratch...

    Connectors and crimpers

That is correct. Depending on how much heat, flux used and how much solder applied, solder can flow up the wire past your strip gap form the contact into the insulation. Sometimes its not an issue if the wire has some strain relief and the the back of the wire isn't being subject to any loads...

    Connectors and crimpers

This. I've held NASA certs for both of these processes and crimping with proper tools and done correctly is often more reliable in NVH environments as you have a connection that is less subject stress fractures from solder wicking up the wire.

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

Glad to hear the food is good! Yeah, my partner has a bit of a lead foot so airtime wouldn't be too unexpected, tbh. Her truck is a reg cab/short bed/2wd (119" WB) so it actually does pretty well and its a LOT more nimble than most people expect and it has a rear locker so it gets a lot more...

    Old Junk vs. New Junk?

I vote for keeping the old truck if y'all like it. I bought my jeep new, but that was because I knew I was going to beat on it and I wanted the full history. The truck we have has been in my fam from being new and my partner has it now, its awesome and we're planning on keeping it running for a...

    2WD Overland Thread

I'd bet there just isn't enough of a market for it when a lot of the go-fast desert people just rip it off and do a super simple tube bumper. Which honestly might be the best solution here as well, but who knows. Gotta look at options, of which there are few....
