Nope, I'm not trying to get out of learning welding, still the plan for the new year.
But I came across this place and wondered how far you could take this stuff. Looks good for building things inside, but could it be used to build a frame on a trailer or flatbed...
I see people talking about sizes. How much more would it be to get a Unicell or Supreme box on a cutaway version of the Transit?
The advantages of a box with even a small cab over for storage seems worth it, I just can't figure out how much these things cost vs a regular Transit.

This looks great. It is my preferred beast to acquire only I keep leaning towards an F series with a box for the default 4x4.
In a Ford, E series, is it possible to have both seats swivel? One of the things I keep considering is the Transit platform with the dual swivel seats. It's like...
This lady does a great job talking about being new to a truck camper (good for a newb like me).
This part of the video shows some rocking or twist, not sure which. But it does show, as emphasized above, that even not very rough ground can have a big affect on the vehicle
Not sure if this exists, but is there any kind of rating system for off road? Like OR1, OR2, OR3 ect... ?
I see so much time wasted with people talking past one another wrt what off road might mean.
The picture above is the kind of stuff I would be going on. Not climbing rock faces, which...
I am guessing those aluminum brazing rods you use with a blow torch will not do for a camper.... FB won't stop advertising them to me after searching welding aluminum.....
JM
Well the next x number of months look like a write off.... so I should try to make some use of it. For once I have a small shop to work in.
New to this kind of stuff, but I have noticed reading this forum that "all good things come from welding"....
I am not sure how ambitious I will get wrt...
So.... with a DIY camper like this... what do people think of things like this?
Will this just rattle itself apart on a rough road? I'm not even talking about crazier off roading.
Thanks!
So if one is buying a flatbed for a truck, say an F350 (any truck really) is that a feature of the flatbed in general, something you put the flatbed on (or neither)?
I am interested in building a camper on the flatbed, but this issue is clearly important so I am wondering if it is a...
Does how the box is attached to the frame, say a Unicell or Supreme Cargo box matter if the intended use is moderate off road? I mean it's still a road, but say really bad forest service roads that need clearance and/or lots of washboard? No articulated rock crawling.
Thanks
JM
Curious. When they say a bed is torsion free, what does exactly mean?
If have a flatbed on an F350 say, and building a camper on that, is it possible the bed itself is fixing this torsion problem?
Forgive me, just learning this stuff.
Thanks
JM
Do your bikes fit inside the camper? Curious about security for if you go hiking or something. Can't leave them on the bike rack.... at lease I can't on my Subie and it is one of the reasons I am looking for van/truck/trailer.
Thanks
