I've been using Exped Megamat 10 for about a year now. I liked it so much I bought 3 of them for the family. Overall, I'm very happy with them. My initial gripe was the deflation time but after mhiscox suggested removing the little one-way flap on the deflation valve, deflation time is much...
Crawl ratio = (1st gear transmission ratio x 3rd member differential ratio x LOW range t-case ratio)
This doesn't take into account the automatic transmission though.
If comparing an '03 LX470 to your own '03 G500:
Crawl ratio
LX470 3.52 x 4.1 x 2.48 = 35.8:1 (not really great)
G500 3.59 x 4.38 x 2.16 = 34:1 (no better)
98-02 LX's have numerically lower crawl ratio and maybe that is what you were comparing to. But why not compare same year...
Thanks Koly, Chuck, mk, et al. This is what I remember, a work around for up to 33's but it sounds like you even with 33's it is not quite "calibrated." I'll have to check with those you mentioned that have been running 35's.
I've been wanting a G for awhile as well. The higher cost of parts...
Which year G do you have? From what I've read, fitting 35's on a 2002+ makes the traction/skid control electronics go crazy with no easy work around. The correct differential gears seemed a bit difficult to obtain on the 463's. Any insight on this?
x10 on "you can't go wrong with either" but the 80 has an edge off-road and the 100 has an edge on-road. Like you said, being able to buy a 2007 vs 1997 has it's own benefits. If you are planning on a lot of mods, there are a lot more aftermarket parts for the 80.
My Waeco CF50 (52 qts) is 40lbs. An equivalent sized ice cooler is probably about 70qt if you factor in the ice. Cooler is 10-15lbs and ice is probably 20-25lbs? So the difference isn't that great.
I like the idea of the teardrop for two adults. But (my) toddlers... they like to do these jumping jacks and cartwheels in their sleep about every 30 minutes and so the three of us could never get good sleep on a double/queen sized mattress.
With RTT's, I wouldn't feel comfortable with my...
I think you can forget trying to bring ice cream under those conditions.... mainly having the fridge off for 6+ hrs with that kind of ambient temperature. Ice cream doesn't really like cycling temps either. You might be able to keep ice cubes that long and "make" home made ice cream.
You also...
It would probably be easier to find a standard ice cooler and then convert it to a compressor type fridge. Or, better yet, make a custom cooler to utilize the available space. Engel, amongst others, make conversion/custom kits...
Search "well nut" and they are pretty much everywhere in every size. I think the important part is cleaning all the rust up and painting the hole. Maybe even drill it out if the hole is no longer round.
I was concerned about the rubber deteriorating from UV rays and so I used a rosette washer...
I saw those too. To me, they seemed a bit expensive at the $89 price but at $40, they are a deal. The plastic is strong and reinforced. But the reinforcements take away on some interior space. The hardware is riveted on. The size is good for one person handling. But you are looking at 24lbs plus...
An insulated thermal cooker can give you similar results w/o the need to run off a battery or 110. However, I'm not sure how it would do in freezing temperatures.

There is a decent selection of 285/75R18's (35x11.25). Take a look at the Toyo AT II. It is on the skinnier end of that size and of the few (maybe only one?) in an AT tread. I say skinnier because 285mm is the section width but the tread width is only 9"...
