********....can i buy you a beer?
FWIW i dropped from 35x12.5 16.5s to 285/75 17s and have been very happy. i havnt been wheeling the truck hard enough to miss the ground clearance. the truck drives nice and tight. i will probable go back to 315s next time.
Is there a reason you don't want to build a console? Mine didn't hack the dash, and it's completely removable. I just got back from a 2400 mile trip in baja, and it is by far the most practical thing I have done to my truck. Your fab skills are better than mine, I have no doubt you could build...
The entire console is mounted via the 2 front center seat bolts. Turned out very sturdy
I have kinda been looking at suncoast and goerend, but I don't have the money to tackle the trans yet.
I just got back from 2400 miles in baja last week. I havnt had time to post pics, I will though.
made some progress.
-finished wiring up the HIDs
-mounted and wired up an amber LED on the rear bumper for visibility in dust
-finished the bed platform
-mounted the camper shell
-my dad wired up 2 lights in the camper shell, one is a 36 LED 1.5" square
-he also wired up a 12v cigaret lighter...
I think the pre2002 were very similar to the ranger. In 02 I think they got the independent rear suspension which will be more complicated to lift.
If you have good friends with fab skills, then that's a good start.
Also, compared with a mini can, I would be stoked on the mountaineer. Slap...
How did you arrive at a mountaineer? I don't think there is much aftermarket for those. Did your wife fall in love with it?
If you plan a mild build, I would look real hard at some other vehicles in the same price range. 99-03 jeep grand Cherokee. Late 90s 4runner ect. The WJ grand cherokees...
pulled the TC off last weekend. bought a $400 used camper shell.
My dad and I are headed to Baja on tuesday for the Baja1000 to chase/co-drive for a 5unlimited car.
My dad and i started on a bed/storage platform, i had it different in my mind, more complicated and expensive. this is his plan...
2 weekends ago, we loaded up our 1969 Open Road camper and spent 4 days in the Eastern Sierra, camped along LeeVining creek.
here is a better shot of the truck and bumper
i got a cool "push on, push off" button from a military surplus store. it turns on an LED license plate light pointed at my wifes feet.
the panel does not go all the way to the floor, and there is no panel on the drivers side, so i can easily reach the transfer case, and i can reach all the...
the 94-97 rams had the cup holders mounted high, above the radio. it was awkward and was a blind spot when you stuck a big-gulp up there, and mine were broken when i got the truck.
i needed something better, and a place for radios and switches ect. i had this console in my mind, i wasnt sure...
