Cinnamon Pass, Alpine Loop, San Juan County, Colorado

The view of the Animas Forks Parking lot from inside one of the buildings. The locals have done a great job of restoring Animas Forks.

Cinnamon Pass, Alpine Loop, San Juan County, Colorado

The Alpine Loop is one of the most famous off road trails in the Western United States, and for good reason. The loop circles some of the best mountain ranges in the Rockies, connecting the town of Lake City in the east to the Ghost Town of Animas Forks to the West. The northern leg of the...

Gunnison County Road #3, Crystal Mill

@yj4roks, Sorry for the late reply, I didn't get a notification. The dash cam footage is a 1st Generation Garmin Virb with the GPS overlays customized and implemented using the base Garmin Software. I then edited the video profile (action cam footage sucks) using Sony Vegas Pro to add back a...

    Cruise Moab 2019

Registration is already full! That's great for you, sucks for me. But I guess it's ok, I still have stock tires on the LX, so I wouldn't be allowed to travrse any trails but arches and chicken corners anyway (and I'm sure not even AHC can make chicken corners bearable with a torsion front...

    18's on range rover sport

What jwestpro said. For me, I'm not so heavy laden, but all the tire failures I've seen and have been involved in over the past 10 years have all been sidewall failures on "P" rated SUV tires, regardless of design. One was brand new 4Runner TRD Pro with the factory off-road tires, sidewall...

    18's on range rover sport

True, but the Duratrac's treadlife isn't where i"d like it and for $300/tire for XL-rated sidewall is embarrassing. Especially when you are looking at $140-160/tire for 265/65R16 (32") Load Range E Cooper ATPs. I've found some brand name Auturo has a weird looking mud tire...I might give it a...

    8LIFGR8's LX470

And since this is a build thread and my last post is a bit more negative than I'd like, here's a positive one: Less than 72 hours after owning her we were wheeling her in Southern Utah. A 4 and 2 rated trail. I haven't done the video of the 4 yet (the vehicle did well, despite the steps)...

    8LIFGR8's LX470

A little update: I did get the master cylinder repaired. I bought a kit off of a Mudder and then destroyed my cylinder when trying to remove the existing motor...the terminals were so corroded I destroyed the board getting them off. So I had to turn to ebay and buy another unit with a...

    LR3 Cross Country to Colorado

Great report! My cousin is trying hard to get me to go over Black Bear. I don't trust the brakes on my Disco 2, so I might be taking the L322. I still don't like narrow ledges though..

    8LIFGR8's LX470

Yeah, my AHC is functioning, but coming from a cross-linked air of a Range Rover, I gotta admit...I'm not as impressed with the performance. That said, a lower pressure hydraulic system is going to be more reliable than air, so I guess it's a trade off. What isn't functioning is the brakes...

Divide Road, From Grand Junciton to Montrose over 100 miles of dirt

I must not be receiving notifications for this thread, I missed all the good conversation. As the OP, I didn't mind the 100 vs. 200 series talk, in fact while I was away from the thread I picked up a nice LX470 for myself and it promptly spit out the brake master cylinder. So the total cost of...

    Toquerville Falls, Washington County, Utah

Toquerville falls is a series of cascading falls over sandstone slick-rock created by a small creek just north of St. George Utah. Access is just minutes away from I-15, so if you are planning a trip to the Mojave, Moab, or Durango area, this little detour is highly recommended. It's a...

    2012 LR4 Build Thread

Gorgeous LR4. It's amazing what a bumper, tires, and a rack does for that timeless profile. It's a shame Rover went away from it instead of building upon it with the Disco 5.

Corkscrew Gulch, San Juan Mountains, Colorado

Corkscrew Gulch is not as well known as the other famous San Juan Passes (Imogene, Engineer, Cinnamon, Black Bear), but it really should be considered along with those greats. The trail traverses the Red Mountain Mining District, just a mountain range south of Engineer Pass and connects...

EarthCruiser G - did the USA get the pick up version of the G?

No, the problem is the chicken tax, and old school tarrif that protects the big 3, forcing a 20% tarrif on imported trucks. It's the same reason you could get the d90 and d110 at land Rover dealership in the mid 90s, but not the 130.

    Point & Shoot Cameras

Olympus Tough TG series. We have standardized on them at work (heavy utility/power plant) for about 10 years now. They go under water, in boilers, hot temps, cold temps, fall on the ground, dirt/ash, etc. They are so good, I bought one for personal use. The current generation is TG-5 and...

    8LIFGR8's LX470

Hey guys! After a long journey of trying to find a Cruiser, I finally found an '03 LX470 single owner, with full records, that I was willing to part with an absurd amount of money (dang Utah "Toyota Tax") for a 15 year old car. After less than 72 hours of ownership, we took it off road in...

    Engineer Pass: Colorado

As others have said, you should be fine. The weather will be more of an issue vs. trail conditions. I'd rate the trail a 3/10 tops from Animas Forks through Engineer Pass, and that's primarily because you'll want low-range for speed control. I can't recall any technical terrain on that side...
