I just ordered these for my rig. They are 4.25" wide which should held keep the rocks and mud down.

Thanks for the feedback on the build. I don't know the weight, but I will load it up in the Spring and get it weighed (it's good to know these things). I haven't been too concerned as the camper was built for 1T trucks...I am a believer in over engineering and I have met my goal!
A/C who needs it...boxes storage
As you can tell, I am finally getting around to responding to some threads today. I don't know why I missed the notifications from December. In the spirit of catching up on the build, I have made two additional modifications: 1) removed the A/C, 2) added some...
@kchristian - if I am driving 65mph on the freeway fully loaded it averages ~10mpg. If I cut my speed and drive backroads and highways, I can get ~12mpg. Remember there are only 8k miles on the cummins and it is not broken in...I expect the mpg to improve slightly
@tbared - I had read a couple of threads on wheel options and the Rickson owners were very satisfied with their choice. Additionally as you stated, there was a significant price difference between Rickson and Hutchison. Wheels and tires are awesome off road; the only drawback is that the tire...
@Every Miles A Memory - Hey Pat thanks for the comment. I just checked out your Low Key Hideaway site. That place is awesome and your photos are incredible. Maybe we can do a vacation swap...we own River's Edge Rentals in Paradise Valley, MT, right on the Yellowstone River.
Time for pics
First I should share something I learned about Dodge and Ram Trucks. There are Dodge cars and Ram Trucks, but no Dodge trucks. Ok, now that the technicality is out of the way, here are the pics:
Preparation airbags (helps level out the truck)
Relocated the batteries into the...
Maiden Voyage
Ok we finally got to put the beast into action. I took off for two weeks with my wife and two dogs and we headed to the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and Glacier. We wanted to shake out the bugs in the systems and plan our next set of changes.
Highlights: On the plus side the...
@bj70_guy - Your LC was very cool. Diesel, 2 dr, and right hand drive - that must be an awesome off road rig. If you figure out how to build my rig for 50% of what I am in to it...call me ASAP :). The truck/camper combo worked really well and my next post will be to describe the pros/cons etc.
I installed the Viair Ultra system. In the process, I relocated the batteries to the passenger side of the camper to better distribute the weight and make more room for gear. So now I have a compartment that was originally designed for a small Honda generator filled with 2 glass mat...
Getting ready for the maiden voyage
I have had a couple of people express interest in buying this build, but I have decided to pull it off of the market. I finally have a couple of weeks to enjoy it and am going to tour the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone at the end of September
So to prepare...
Pulling off the market, as I finally have time to use the build. I am going to spend two weeks in the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone at the end of September
To my lotto/raffle motivated friends...thanks for the compliments on the build. I have not taken time to look into this approach and doubt that I will go this route. If all goes to plan the rig will be posted on craigslist then ebay in July and Aug
Sorry for the slow reply...work has been intense. The expo rig is still for sale. I have not kicked the advertising into high gear (Craigslist, ebay, etc). Am waiting for a time when work slow down so I can be more responsive
I like the raffle idea and I really like the charity angle. I am not in a hurry to sell, so let me look into this and see if there is something that makes sense. The odds are probably better than heading to your favorite gambling casino!
Due to job changes and the inability to use the rig I just finished building, I am going to sell an expo ready custom build. This setup is registered as an RV. Here is the build thread. If you are seriously considering building an expo rig, you should take a look at this one. It is cheaper...
The tire/wheel combo is awesome and I am very pleased with the product. As Ram5500 says, it is expensive, but it is bulletproof, provides great ground clearance and with the 4.88 diffs, the extra circumference creates better mileage and lower rpms (right where the Cummins likes to be)
Charlie - glad to chat, I learned a lot from reading your posts over the years. Those are 20x9's Rickson customs wheels with 275/80's plenty of carrying capacity for the rig and the clear the brakes with ease. Camper is fastened with fast guns (spring loaded) and base 8 plates that keep it...
