Minimal eh? I do like the Monty's spec list much better than the Trooper, I'm just stuck on the suspension issue. I'm coming from a 87 Toyota pickup with little to no flex so I'd like my next vehicle to be smoother on those washboard roads.
I'm more concerned with the front. All the pictures I've seen show little to no flex but it looked like they all had the front swaybar connected still. I spend most of my explorations in the desert at fairly high speeds so travel is important to me.
How much suspension travel front and rear does a gen 2 Montero have? I'm debating between a Trooper and a Montero for my next 4x4 and that is one bit of info I've been having a hard time finding. Thanks in advance.
Oh, that happens with them sometimes. I wanted 235/85-16s for my truck but that size was backordered for like 4 weeks or something so I had to get the 265s I have now. I was in a rush because one of my tires had literally exploded on the freeway and I was driving on the spare. It wasn't a...
Have you looked at www.treadwright.com for tires? I'm not sure how shipping would be way up north but the tires are cheap. I'm running the Guard Dogs and I can't complain.
I just thought of a second option if you're into (or know someone who is) welding. The 63" leaf springs found on the rear of Chevy trucks are a great swap for very good flex for little money. Pirate4x4 has an excellent FAQ about this swap if you are more interested...
Very true. I was meaning more of in the long run with the locker. I can definitely agree that a locker would be terrible on a truck with an already squirrelly rear end, haha.
I actually have experience with that too. It'll fit your truck just fine and I'll include a pic or two so you can see. These were taken with 265/65-16s and OME medium springs.
I have an 87 pickup (identical front suspension and slightly shorter leafs than your truck) and the best I've found for suspension is ball joint spacers up front and OME shocks all around with the OME leafs in the rear. I have the heavy shocks and the regular weight leaf springs. My truck is...
I'm pretty sure you're correct. However, I think I rear somewhere that Ford used the rear axle from the Mexican-spec F-150 as its stronger than the American version.
