It is cast steel and weldable. And the guy next door is certified for pressure welding in nuke plants. So I leave it up to him. I do know he uses different rods for the root pass to the fillet welds. And he works for cheap American beers. [emoji1]
Panhard rod is under construction. Profiling the 5 x 3 heavy wall box to follow the contour of the housing as the cross axle support and some 1/2 plate gussets for the lateral support.
Ok I need to tell someone about this. The missus is just not showing enough excitement.
Found a yoke (on eBay) that allows me to use the existing drive line (in 2wd) to get mobile in time for expo. Saving a lot of time and $$$.
Trying to match up to the mechanics 8.5c to my 1710 universal...
YouTube videos seem to indicate you have AWD for the military ones and not the ability to disconnect the front not both. But I will test it and see what the transfer case we have.
I don’t know who owns the truck. But looking at it as closely as possible on a phone it appears as though the rack must be attached to the subframe and not the truck chassis.
The previous photo shows a design that mounts directly to the truck chassis. This would be my preferred option...
Had to do some Aussie rednecking today. I was chasing some axle taper shims. Freightliner were useless because there are none associated with my VIN. So I called Kenworth. Yes we have them but 2 degrees only not the 6 I needed. Ok I will just grab 3 sets. Sure we have 27 sets here. They are $256...
Yes it is a nice rig. We had a lot of sellers remorse when it went away.
I am going to say the interior height is 5’ 7” or close to that.
My wife could stand upright and I had a kink my next a little.
I just got a message from the guys who bought this rig. They are looking to sell it. Give them a call on (619)454-6315. $16,500 and 136000 miles. Also has a walk through now.
I’m not sure what truck you are putting them in but the wide ones fit the Freightliner perfectly.
The front axle on the truck had 33” between the center pins and the axle was 34”. So near but not quite close enough. But the Freightliner has a single spring on the front that is not centered on...
Success and failure.
The success was finally getting the adapter plates welded to the front axle tube. The guy nextdoor dropped over with his truck and glued them on for me.
But when I removed the plastic I had supposedly sealing the elements out of the open diff center I discover that...
Just to close this one out. I did locate a couple of the bus oil pans. Used and damaged 120 GBP plus shipping from the UK and getting it repaired. Or straight from Detroit Diesel $2468.88 plus tax. So I passed on those options (for the time being at least) and as Charlie suggested I will be...
Our truck had a cage protecting the AC which really ate up the roof space. We ended up taking the cage and the AC off in favor of a fan and as much solar as we could fit. But I still have that cage here if it’s of any use to you.
There are a couple of other things to check. The M2 has a couple of mileage displays. Make sure they haven’t selectively picked the lowest one (like a sales yard in Florida accidentally does regularity).
Also depending on which MBE900 engine it has it could be a dog. That’s a lot of truck if...
Swapped the steer axle I was going to use on the rear for a matching solid rear axle. The spring perches are in the right place and it has the park brakes on it as well so should make it easier to install. Although I don’t think easy should be used anywhere in this conversion so far.
And...
