Originally I had 4” block made up of 4 lumps of 2” thickwall box welded together with a plan to remove 2 if I only needed 2”. But earlier in the week I welded them all up and boxed the ends in. So this morning we grabbed some 6061 4 x 2 1/2 aluminum and used that to make the spacers.
I could...
I think a little suspension tuning is in order. I’m not into the prerunner look. This is with the rear totally aired down. So today I get to lower the front 2”.
It did a lap of the block. 1 issue with crossed brake hoses (they have the same fittings for service and park brakes and I f’ed up). But I am going to need a power boost I think. Definitely a bit slower on uptake but not sure how much until I reset the speedo. Transmission will need the adaptive...
Axles are all in hopefully for the last time. Panhard rod installed, driveline sort of red neck Aussie aligned. Now to get some brake lines and I hopefully will be doing a lap of the block tomorrow.
Then I can bring it back and retorque everything. [emoji51]
No experience with those readers. For an aftermarket ford reader I recommend the Auto Enginuity kit. It also has very good forum support around the place.
And I don’t know of anyway to test the EGR valve. But I have seen people spend a lot on turbos etc when EGR valves fail.
Black smoke is...
Possibly the vanes in the turbo stuck. Not too difficult a job to clean them up. A symptom of this is overboost. Especially if you have blown the boot off lately . EGR bypassing is also a candidate. If you suspect the EGR either replace with new (don’t overhaul) it or block it somehow. Putting a...
Well some progress over the weekend. Front axle is all finished except for fitting the drag link. That took 1 1/2 big days.
And Ryan nextdoor came over and welded the panhard rod mount on the rear axle. Beautiful job! Now I just need to fill it with oil (about 5-6 gallons), mount it up, set...
It’s a bit late for you but in case anyone else is looking and needs a replacement I recommend the Raptor by Airdog. Way overkill for the standard 5.9 but it comes with 4 year warranty and is an easy fit. The kit for the Dodge Cummins is usually cheaper and fits up easily.
AirDog (R3SBD100)...
Not only is fuel pump failure a know issue it can also result in injection pump failure. A good preventative measure is to put either a low pressure switch/alarm or a pressure gauge on the output of the lift pump. 5 psi is the minimum you ever want to see or prepare yourself for the $1700...
But on the downside I worked out that I mixed up the knuckles and planetary’s. Now the brakes are not the right way around and the steering is on the wrong side.
So I get to stick to my “do it twice then do it right” theory.
So I broke the dipstick tube pulling the oil pan off. Just a plastic tube less than 2’ long. So I figured I would just buy a new one. Called the Freightliner stealership to see if they have one in stock. Nope it will be ten days and that will be $128 plus tax. [emoji33][emoji90]
So I made my...
Did you split that filter open to see how full it was? Also did you consider using a filter skin (generally oiled foam) on the intake as a prefilter. Easy to carry a spare and also easy to remove and clean.
4” with no precleaner for normal use but a scoop facing forward. Add a precleaner if you are going to be crawling along in constant fesh fesh.
Getting the intake a lot higher will reduce the dust levels and the scoop will provide some form of Ram Air effect to overcome any restrictions when...
Actually I am past the point of easily returning it to its original (little) configuration so at the moment I think it’s “Go Big Or Stay Home” [emoji51]
Good idea Jack. I will plate them after the rest is welded. Here is the rest of the bits. 1/2” wrapped around the axle for lateral strength and the mounting plate for the panhard rod bracket. That will be drilled in place which will be a real bugger to do but easier to actually get right.
