DIY LR4 hidden winch attempt fail

So here is where the question of the time value of money comes in. Definitely could have made it work - eventually - if you really love DIY projects and have a bunch of tools and materials, and/or friends with tools and materials, and you're in no particular hurry. Our you can buy someone...

Studded vs non-studded Nokian LT2/3 - calling fellow northerners & Canadians

My opinion: I think with old school tech you need old school traction. Modern snow tires with tiny bits of glass and elf-magic tread compounds have been designed to work well with modern traction control systems and ABS that can sense wheel slip in single-degree increments and work "with" those...

I agree with this issue not necessarily being break-in related - more like "infant mortality" and based on the fact that it doesn't seem many other reviewers / owners / posters are having *this exact problem,* one may chalk this up to typical first-model-year teething. But unless they run...

So having done a number of oil analyses on my Td6 with Blackstone, you see a lot of metals from the cylinders and rings that drop off pretty quick over the first oil change interval - they didn't stabilize with mine until well into the 2nd oil change interval, around 12-14k miles, and you...

If you're on the Interstate, yes. But offroading at elevation means low speed and high RPMs in Low Range. Good for the low range gearbox, maybe not so good for the engine depending on how they treated it, which of course they do not show.

Manual for the Defender states there is a 2,000 mile break-in period. It's clear as day. When I was growing up, the saying was "drive it hard but take it easy," meaning you need to give it some beans from time to time, vary the engine speed frequently, but never redline it or stress the engine...

I can't find any info on Td6 take rate but a statement on their US website that was updated 5 days ago according to Google states they expect a 15% take rate on any model released with the Td6 engine. Some markets will have a much higher take rate - most Discoveries I've seen parked (the badge...

I love my D5 Td6...a D300 would be amazing in the Defender. But sadly, I agree with others that its extremely unlikely they'll bring diesels to the US unless the demand signal changes significantly and the Supreme Court, when it gets there, rules that California can't dictate emissions controls...

If they were actually going to lift without rods, there is a lot more work to do than just adding spacers on the shock mounts - will need new arms, steering linkage extensions, and it will change the spring rate and other performance parameters. Likely not cheap.

couple of random and general questions

Mine does it several times a day and has for 3 years with no problems. Also does it quite frequently offroad. Not such a "little" compressor. But I would agree that there are far better choices for someone who has a bad hip and wants an easy in/out experience, and will cost less to own - such...

I don't know, I loves me some Lucas jokes. The Grand Tour had a ball with them in S2 E6. It's more the people who insist all modern Land Rovers are garbage *because* there are Lucas jokes, and because they don't like the way Gerry McGovern draws adjoining squares and rectangles. That's all...

Not only that, they're mandated by law in the US. The 360 degree camera and "see-through hood" is perhaps a bit of a gimmick but would come in handy of you don't have a spotter, or where it may not be convenient or safe to have a spotter out. I have been in situations in my Discovery 5 where I...

I have an M1A Scout Squad in walnut, that thing is amazing. 425 yards on iron sights, pings a 12" plate round after round. I put a Burris Scout 2-7x32 on it and it is even better. Can't get 20 round mags in Colorado, but I did order legal-limit 15 round mags from Springfield direct. I shoot...

I think the Defender's system is different. I read somewhere on its design that it retains some drop / negative travel even in (super?) extended mode. A 1 or 2" lift it will still retain the same total drop in Offroad heights and in Extended Mode. The lift just takes away the ability for the...

Must be new because mine doesn't. 2017 Discovery HSE Td6. But perhaps the new Defender's off road modes adjust throttle response and emissions system behavior outside of allowed parameters for presumed off road travel, and therefore must revert back during a fresh start. This would be OK in...
