Nobody wants to interview an engineer, and engineers aren't comfortable talking in public, but I suspect we would hear the complementary position if someone did ask Nick Roger's for his perspective on the Defender. Who cares if Gerry isn't an off roader? He highlights the inevitable compromise...

There are preset modes that will make it point and shoot - but the ability to tweak settings to optimize for the exact conditions still requires knowledge of what you're tweaking, and feedback to train your brain how to use it effectively. It's like the multiple step-down modes in defeating...

Out west, that includes water at 7 lbs per gallon, two spares - one with a wheel if not both, hi-lift, prybar/rock bar, shovel/pulaski, beer, whiskey, wine at 7lbs per gallon (c'mon, you're not going out without it), firearms for fun and not-fun, and then all the little **************** you always take...

Hard to see the driver's feet in most of the videos. And, as with any new technology, there's a learning curve associated with things like turning the knobs on the adjustable diff, TC, and throttle behavior.

    Old series Land Rover?

Every time I drive down US 24 out of Colorado Springs, I see these two somewhat tweeded gents parked at the Ponderosa Country Store in Lake George, CO. I always imagine them as British-accented versions of the old Muppet hecklers Statler and Waldorf:

Take a look at about the 5:40 mark. He showed the tire and rim damage (looks like he will need to replace at least two of his tires). He didn't show the underside of the muffler which you can clearly see move when he tried to center-line a fairly large boulder, which considering his care in...

If it had a float on it the float could make for a way to snag it with a boat hook, but you have to know where to look. If you find it, get yourself a 2-lb bag of rice on the way home and when you get there, put the rice in a bucket and bury the remote in the middle, and leave it there for a...

But not the Blazer. Chevy should be punished for that. Would expect Ineos to try to ink a deal with BMW since they're supposedly sourcing motors from them - but I'll bet Land Rover is trying to head that one off at the pass.

 that sucks. That fear is actually the only fear that I really have about doing the kinds of things I do....at least you know more or less exactly where they are, even if they might as well be on the moon. I've found many a car key on trails, and well off trails, in my time, and I...

So on my D5, all of the sensitive bits are tucked waaaaay up inside the underside. There's lots of flat belly pan, but above that, there are several inches of space. The air tank, for example, is a full 6 inches above the lowest part of the door sill on the right side, aligned with the right...

I think they went in neither direction and that's okay. The Pathfinder (and Blazer, which you could also have included) removed capability. The Defender added capability. The Wrangler has very slowly added capability while placing form above function. The Bronco is a leap ahead of its...

...And also it's all "BRONCO HAZ 35's" but when you compare the geometries to the Defender and the D5 on 32" and 31" tires, the Bronc *needs* 35" tires to just barely beat both. And *unless* you get 35's, the numbers are the same or worse.

In Super Extended mode, total ground clearance is 13.9" on the D5 but there is zero droop - it's really there to get you off a high-center or similar obstacle, it's not a valid driving mode. You can't turn your wheels to full lock in SE mode. I think the Defender's air suspension allows some...

Numbers for the Defender's "maximum" ground clearance are incorrect - they don't account for Extended or Super Extended mode, only OR2. Extended Mode can only be accessed upon grounding or wading, and then Super Extended mode is user-controlled above that.

Don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but here's a paper comparison between the Defender and the Bronco on geometry. Note the Defender ride height is in "minimum off road height," in Off Road 1 height, not OR 2, Extended or Super Extended, though in Extended/SE modes droop is severely...

Have you been tracking what Lucky8 has done? Lift, 33" 12.5 MTs, sliders, and they've hinted they're working on a front bumper, and they have already got something going for the rear bumper. They have an A-bar for the Disco and I suspect a metal A-bar will not be far behind with the Defender...

    New Defender News

My dealer (fairly small market) mentioned they were surprised by a couple deliveries that came in weeks earlier than they had anticipated - the trucks were on a ship going through the Panama Canal even before the anticipated build date. They were possibly pre-COVID cars though, and the dealer...

The amazing thing is, people still call the Defender a vanilla soft-roader despite obvious and convincing video proof to the contrary. The Velar and the Evoque are soft-roaders. The Defender is a sophisticated off-roader that was designed knowing people will spend most of their time on the road...
