Your assumptions are just so Wrong. Which rule assumed you can own only one car at a time? For instance right now I own five cars and one motorcycle. One of my Land Rovers I bought in 1973, it's a 1967 Series IIA that I am currently doing a frame up restoration on. My 1966 109 diesel wagon is...

Hell I'm a 68 year old youngster and I've owned over 85 vehicles. It depends what your priorities are. Nineteen of those have been Land Rovers and I do almost all of the work on my cars, including full restorations. Except for the Chevy pickup trucks, the Corvairs, and the Cadillac most of them...

My sister in law just traded her Subaru in on a BMW X1 after a world of continuing electrical and mechanical issues. Don't even mention a Subaru around her if you don't want a ten minute tirade on Subarus, the dealers and no support from the manufacturer. Here's an excerpt of her troubles with...

This is a pretty good review - I really like the moment where he points out how much narrower the Defender is than the Range Rover - especially since the D5 is a bit of a fat pig.

Small Hardside popup toy hauler with Timbren suspension

Very cool design - I've forwarded the info to some friends of mine who are looking for a toy hauler/camper combination for their Yamaha 250's. Buy once - cry once for good quality.

Luckily I'm retired with a pension, social security and investment income from my 401k (start those early kiddos - when you get to be an old guy and everything is paid off you get to play with nicer toys). I really didn't plan on buying another new car so soon but we live pretty frugally so I...

And that's why I'm wondering if swapping the D5 for the new Defender with a 4 cylinder is going to be something I regret doing a year down the road. I am pretty certain that I will like the Defender better as an off road vehicle - it's just that the Discovery is such a really nice everyday car...

    Patriot Camper vs. Turtleback?

I'm a camper geek that has spent more time looking at different campers than is altogether healthy. I first saw the Turtle Back campers a few years ago at Overland Expo East and was very impressed with the build quality but the next year the Patriot campers showed up and just blew me away. They...

I'm still a bit disappointed with the engine choices, I was sort of planning on towing my restored Series IIA 88" to events up and down the east coast on a trailer behind the 110. That still might be possible but the combined weight of the truck and trailer would probably be a little over 4000...

I really wish someone would publish a road test of the P300 4 cylinder gas powered 110. I've towed a number of trailers under 2500 lbs with my 112 HP 4 cylinder turbodiesel Defender 90 and it performed admirably. I've downsized my travel trailer back to one weighing under 1200 lbs after going up...

    New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

Defender is just a name that was created just because the Discovery was about to be introduced to the American market. The important name (as it has been for seventy years) is Land Rover. I would be perfectly happy if the new vehicle lives up to THAT name plate. Getting all bent out of shape...

Yes, I can't wait to see what the aftermarket will come up with for the new Defender - first thing I'll be looking for is a good set of rocksliders (learned that lesson on my Hunter Edition Range Rover) and will be waiting to see what ARB comes up with for a front bumper. I also will want some...

I'm looking forward to when these get out in the hands of the new owners - I suspect that there will be a lot of very quiet "never minds" once we get our hands on them. Its amazing how the once reviled LR3 and LR4 have become so revered now that the Discovery 5 is their replacement. Drive a...

Manual hubs? When that might save what? One mile per gallon with the added complication of a fragile hub that you have to get out of the vehicle and engage before you get into trouble? How cute. Land Rover started building all wheel drive cars with the introduction of the first Range Rover in...

    New Defender News

We've towed a wide variety of stuff with my LR3 and D5 from utility trailers and campers to a 26' enclosed car transporter. I had a Prodigy brake controller which plugged into the LR3 and worked great. I'd like to be able to tow my 88" Series IIA on an open trailer behind the new 110 to Land...

    New Defender News

I'd have to say that the 450 ft-lbs of torque that my TDV6 Discovery 5 certainly isn't meaningless. It towed a 26' car hauler with a Porsche 356 Carrera in it quite nicely. And it towed this 17 foot long, 2700 lb travel trailer back up from Orlando, Florida at 65-70 mph easily while getting 23 mpg.

And that's why I have a 4 cylinder gas powered 110 on order. I drove a 2020 Velar with the four cylinder gas engine and it seemed pretty good on a short test ride. I was really hoping for a six cylinder diesel version but according to my source at JLRNA it's not gonna happen here. I think the...

My first enclosed travel trailer was this mid - 1970's Boler that I bought in 2007. They are actually a good base for updating with modern LED's and a modern fridge/freezer. I was driven to going this route after two consecutive years of really rainy weekends at the Mid Atlantic Rover Rally...

Eribas are built over a steel tube frame wrapped in an aluminum skin with a fiberglass roof. I might eventually do something like this with it - drop it onto a stouter frame with bigger wheels.
