One thing to mention regarding bed rugs in freezing climates. I trimmed out the flap section that goes between the bed and tailgate. I found it would get wet then freeze causing difficulty in closing/opening the tailgate.

I have the extra bedding height. Can stack my 3” mattress sections and sleeping bags up there with it closed. Have to pull the pillows down. I also have to slide the top mattress cushion slightly aft to provide clearance for the lifting hinge deal.

Anyone using an GMC AT4 or any other GM pickup for overlanding?

To get back on track, @landis76 you didn’t mention whether your AT4 is a 1500 or 2500/3500. Either way, if you decide to up your tire size DO NOT just put a level on it unless you wanna toast your upper ball joints, do it right to include a proper replacement upper control arm. Also not sure if...

Anyone using an GMC AT4 or any other GM pickup for overlanding?

As a long time GM truck owner I am continually disappointed with their offerings. Aside from the ZR2, GM “off-road” packages are just stickers and badges, garbage tires and even worse rancho shocks. They make great platforms with the right modifications, but in stock form they are outclassed by...

“there's so much thermal bridging you can't control, and the tent sides, even with the thermal liner let in a lot of cold. It seems to me that being comfortable in the cold in our campers is pretty much clothing and heater dependent.” Could not agree more. Insulating def made it cooler when...

For sealing (prior to install) I bought one of those foam block bed sealing kits. Pulled the plastic bed rails and sealed with RTV and aluminum tape before installing new rails. Sealed bulkhead gap with RTV and bed drain holes as well before installing bed rug. Little bit of water still gets in...

Excellent choice. I know many people up here with those stove/heaters in their boats. All seem happy with the performance.

Those enduro’s are pretty slick. Still prefer OVRLND. Vertical sides, and full bed width make for a lot more room in actual use.

Why so many negative YouTube videos about RTTs?

Had a tepui for several years. It was great most of the time. We then had a particularly wet trip in BC, dog got sick all over the inside cab of the truck while we were sleeping and I said not again. Enter the OVRLND and could not be happier.

@dstefan Thanks for the plug for my thread! This thread will be a great resource for future OVRLND builders. For anyone else looking, I sourced a lot of my inspiration from GFC and Drifter folks on tacomaworld. Pretty robust community over there.

@dstefan no heat issues hitting the top of the fridge. Been happyish with the heater in general. It does well enough in knocking the chill off. Camped recently and it was raining really hard all night. Condensation sucked. And I think running the heater all night made it worse. The wave is...

    Weight

I might suggest upgrading to power stop brakes or something similar. But other than that just keep up with the maintenance and regularly inspect for issues (worn bushings, balljoints,, wheel bearings, axle seals, cracked leaves) all of which aren’t too terrible to replace. Yes parts are gonna...

    Weight

I think you’re learning the dirty little secret about mid size or half tons with slide in campers. Every single one of em is overweight. That doesn’t make it ok. It’s just reality. Even most vehicle that are using lightweight options(GFC, OVRLND, vagabond, snap treehouse etc). Once appointed and...

    Weight

I am sympathetic to your GVWR concerns. If you look at my build (fairly well appointed OVRLND camper) you’ll see weight tickets. Before my wife, dog, food and water I’m 140 under GVWR (7200#) and about 600 under my rear GAWR. This is my daily driver. Last time I weighted it we were moving from...

    2014 Sierra 1500 OVRLND camper

Thanks! Sorry, I don’t have anywhere else I post pics. Haven’t been doing much camping or any work on the truck. But this is the place I post updates. I got a lot of inspiration from folks that have GFCs and Drifters on Tacoma forums.
