M2 Freightliner Ambulance Conversion Project. 2007 Crew Cab

Other observations. This thing is a dream to drive compared to the FL's. no shaking and a lot quieter. Even with the low air alarm, low oxygen alarm and something causing a speaker for the intercom or something to feedback. I changed out the seat for the missus. A bit of a struggle in the Home...

M2 Freightliner Ambulance Conversion Project. 2007 Crew Cab

Ok just drove from Orlando to Gainesville. Maintains 70 easily enough. Maybe this one is just a bit more porky and not as responsive as the Cummins. Loving the size of the fuel tank. Not that I have actually filled it yet.

Yeah I was looking for the sarcastic emoji.

And just another quick photo. This is a feature I like and dislike. There is about 12" between the cab and the module. Not sure why. But I like it for the room it opens up to allow for a split unit AC condenser to be installed (and maybe move the engine driven aux cab/module condenser as well)...

M2 Freightliner Ambulance Conversion Project. 2007 Crew Cab

So after a couple of days driving it around Florida I have an attack list to attend to before we head off across the country. Low power and seems to have 1 or more cylinders not contributing fully under load. Seems to be more pronounced after running then sitting for a while. Hardly holds...

This is why you don't drive at night. You never know where the kangaroos are.

M2 Freightliner Ambulance Conversion Project. 2007 Crew Cab

Some of you will of seen my other thread with a conversion of the extra cab FL60 http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/118224-Freightliner-ambulance-conversion-project. (Old Yella). Rather than get bogged down in that thread I have decided to start a new thread for our latest project...

    Freightliner ambulance conversion project.

It is a Medic Master and it is a Mercedes. Uncharted territory for me. I definitely would of preferred a Cummings or even a Cat. But the rest of the rig (except no pass through) was a good fit for us. One other issue is that all the controls are digital and software driven. Makes it a bit...

4x4 and 6x6 Trucks at auction in Florida. Lots of them.

Checking for 4x4 trucks and I found an auction in Florida with a stack of 4x4 and 6x6 bucket trucks for sale. Figured someone may be interested. http://www.jjkane.com

Why I'm not allowed to browse local auction sites anymore (I bought a shuttle bus)

That's a great base to build on. I wouldn't be too concerned with the motor/tranny unless you are noticing issues now. A bit of smoke cold is normal. A good fluids flush and a basic build until you see how it goes would be my recommendation. The biggest hassles I see with these type of shuttles...

    Freightliner ambulance conversion project.

Probably but not before I have this one to a stage that we can use it. Got burnt last time selling one before the other was ready and missed a few good travel opportunities. Now the bonus for you is that I think it has the stretcher mount you are chasing and it is in Florida. Maybe we can get...

One of the other advantages is that it has a different style of rear air ride. Will make fitting the new axle and lifting it a lot easier than last time. Like this cab chassis that was sitting beside it.

And here it is. 2007 Freightliner M2. 6 speed with air brakes and brand new tires (still have the tits on the front ones). No pass through except for the little window. Extra AC in the cab as well as a 110v one on the roof.

Ok no photos yet. But a treasure hunt in Florida has been fruitful. Looks like a crew cab is in my future.

    Opinions on the HDJ80?

I ran a fleet of 4WD Toyotas including these for a mine in Australia. Very solid reliable vehicle. The 1HDT is the engine to aim for or the 1HZ turbo. The normally aspirated ones are a lot slower which would not fit well with American driving conditions and roads. The ones we used were the...

    Freightliner ambulance conversion project.

Looks like the schedule is sort of in place. A week in Baja then a weekend at Death Valley before any major work is started. Still plenty of little projects to eat up all my spare time.

    Military FMTV pic's and discussion..

Nope it cannot be run in 2wd. No transfer case on these only the AWD that changes the power split when put in 4WD mode. I think it is 30/70 in normal mode and 50/50 in dirt mode.
