    Regearing a 2010 JKUR

Old thread but have a couple observations with JK gearing, coming from an XJ guy. My XJ with its low end torquey 4.0l ran its best with 4.88s and 33s. Best mileage, power, etc... With 35s everything dropped slightly. But I will show the numbers for comparison: 33s 4.88s @ 60mph = 2250 rpm...

    Sleeping Platform

How do you like the headroom with that height of platform and would you mind measuring it? Also what kind of pickup is it? Been wanting to build a platform for my jeep but being able to sit up to get dressed seems important. Some platforms I see here doesn't seem like that would be possible.

ARB Rear Tire Carrier Jeep JK

No experience with the ARB but my ONLY complaint about my poison spyder rear is that it doesn't open with the gate but I see they have come out with one that does that now. Otherwise I'd recommend it, the tire height is adjustable has a hi lift mount (although a little high for my taste but...

    Cherokee XJ AW4 Woes

Change the fluid and filter. I had an AW4 that shifted a little weird and also would start to make a minor bearing noise at hiway speeds. I changed the filter that everyone told me was pointless and it shifted better and the noise went away completely. Of that doesn't do it, test the wiring...

1999 Jeep Wrangler 2.2L Kubota diesel swap

This spot looks familiar but cant put my finger on it. Where is this? Great job on the swap! I am surprised such low HP is working so well. Any ideas what tire you are going to go with to balance RPMs and weight/power?

Wrangler Tire Size - Overland, Trail, and Other

While I don't have a JK, I've been all over Moab, the Rubicon and all our local trails in my XJ with 33s and now 35s. I can say I have found no benefit to the 35s. In a JKU I might lean toward 35s from an appearance, break over and having 17" wheels standpoint but otherwise 33s work great. I...

A Challenge - How Obese is your Rig?

My XJ lists the GVWR at 4850lbs. Have rolled the scale with 2 adults and gear for a winter weekend at 4400lbs. Said XJ was equipped with 33s, winch bumper, winch, sliders and spares, tools etc. Have been in a lot heavier XJs though, over 5400 for a weeklong rubicon vacation.

Expedition vehicle transmissions: Auto or manual?

Auto works well for technical rock crawling tight trails etc where rolling back an inch can put you upside down or into a tree. Also is good for multitasking such as drinking coffee, talking on the cell phone, cb etc.. Downsides to the auto I have noticed are poor controls whether they be...

    Hankook MT vs Toyo MT

Oddly enough I haven't been too OCD about them. I let the dealer do the rotating, which cost me some additional wear on the passenger side tires ( truck has odd wear on the front right tire). If they would have been rotated side to side to balance this they would have more life left.

    Hankook MT vs Toyo MT

Interesting as I just rode in a friends truck(same dodge 3500) with the hankooks and noticed how rough it drove compared to my truck with toyos. Huge difference, thought there was something totally different in the suspension which there isn't except my truck has a 2" leveling kit which would...

    Need help identifying my LCA's

Color says RE but they have always had the axle end off set to clear the bracket and have never used poly bushings. I would recommend pulling them and measuring the bushing dimensions for replacements. However maybe with some luck someone just dropped those poly bushings in place of the factory...

    A/c delete..do or don't? Also OBA question.

Pics are long gone I think but here's a link to mine from several years ago. Worked great and the install turned out very clean IMHO. Just couldn't deal with no AC so I personally will not go that rout again. http://www.pnwjeep.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5638&hilit=XJ+oba This was done on...

    XJ remote oil filter

Maybe I missed it but why? The factory location is decent IMO. A single rectangle oil pan can catch the oil from the pan and filter in the same spot. In an already cramped engine bay I just don't see the benefit.

    XJ steering problems?

Purely speculating but I assume that the draglink must have some angle built into the joints to accommodate increased travel which is usually biased toward droop. 2" less up travel from factory is the minimum I would run with anything over a 2" lift and 245/75r16s anyway.

    XJ steering problems?

X2 though to save a few$$ the V8 ZJ steering is much better than stock XJ. The RE track bar brace is a worthy investment as well. Haven't had one loosen up on me in almost 9 years.

    Warn M8000 - used

I'm sure whichever dirrection you went is good but I must say my m8k has been a great winch for the 10 years and countless 'situations' I have gotten myself into.

    Currie Anti Rock?

I have been running an antilock on my xj(xj's) for 6+ years and have to say it is the most worthwhile suspension component I ever purchased. The XJ's front coils and rear leafs don't articulate at the same rate. The antirock adds some resistance to the front and allows the rear to be much more...

    Bead Balancing tires.

I tried these after loosing crimp on wheel weights and/or spinning the wheels in the tires. Worked great, tires ran out smooth and never cupped, got out of round etc. I used about 8oz in each of the BFG MT KMs in a 305/70 16 (33") and ran them for over 50k like that. Only adverse affect noticed...

    Adding anti-lock brakes

The only way I would even consider this in a MJ was if I were to do a complete 97-01 swap (dash, wiring, ECU and front clip/ doors). Otherwise in general I am not a fan of the jeep ABS systems. Had a 96xj with it and it was more of a hindrance than safety/ benefit.
